Latest from the Met although im not sure the exit for the low will be the wash area, im sticking with the exit point been Norfolk/Suffolk with the strongest winds south of the exit and the heavy rain to the north

Interesting so many forecaster still talk of inches but show graphics of mm

Has anyone else noticed that from the 18h pressure charts with a 989mb low, the 19h charts have lessened the low intensity to 992mb?

Twitter latestTomasz Schafernakerâ€@Schafernaker6mWestern coast of Brittany NW France now being pounded by gusts over 60-70mph.

Brest currently report winds of 30mph, no gust reports though. That's from the airport station on NOAA website. Brest is NW tip practically.

Once again on here there are some that won't be happy unless the country is decimated by some freakish storm. Be careful what you wish for. On a happier note we have a light breeze in Lowestoft.

Well that's weather for you....and you are on a weather forum....to discuss weather?

If this storm fails to bring the predicted winds and rain rail passengers will be going bonkers with all these cancellations

Wow the flood alerts are growing fast? In areas that have no rain yet

The Environment Agency use Telemetry Data to know how much water there is in their main water courses, and with the forecast rainfall, it's relatively straightforward for them to estimate the extra capacity they have and the volume they'll need to cope with the rainfall.  They can then identify which areas are at risk before the rain comes.

Interestingly, some of the alerts are for coastal areas, including all of Coastal Dorset and Chichester Harbour.  The risk here is identified as high waves over-topping coastal defences.

Any chance they will un-cancel all the trains in SE England if this storm is not as bad as was first thought?

I'm more terrified of the crush on the platform in the morning trying to get on a train than the wind to be honest. Current models make this look like a fairly normal windstorm with some gusty winds inland and heavy rain. ...... not exactly a mega storm.

Gentle rain just started here in North Pembrokeshire, after a blustery day with dramatic seas and surf chasing us up the beaches (we've been to 3) it fell quiet at about 5pm.  Just been to get some coal from the outhouse, torch in hand, and there is some movement starting again in the trees, feels like it's going to liven up again.

It looks like we are just out of the orange zone, though back home in Reigate is firmly within.  Coming to West Wales to escape the wind?  That's a new one for me.

Uncancelling the trains is easier said than done. All the stock and crews will be in the wrong place; it would take well over an hour or so to get everything up and running.

Why do they cancel train before something happens? They kept running during the blitz for goodness sake! ><

Flick between 18h and 19h and notice there is a bunch of observations missing on the 19h one. And the smoother isobars. It's probably using model data for the 19h chart.

Is it not a case that the pressures were really low earlier due to the other low in the North , and pressures will rise as that moves away and then lower again later as the new storm forms ?

Pretty much everyone will be having the day off! Very rare for most to be within walking distance of work, and many have no option but trains to get to central London.

I think the roads (m4, M40, M25,M1) are going to be horrendous tomorrow rush hour!

I think it is crazy, but as pointed out above, due to being a blame culture, it is all about preventing risk and saving money.

On a weather note, here in Slough, Berkshire it has been a gusty day and recently started to rain (lightly). However the strange thing is the wind has now died down
