Yes those isobars look pretty tightly packed

To be fair the isobars on the chart this relates too are every 1mb, not every 4mb as per the usual chart from the met office/GFS etc. This has the impression of it looking more severe than it is. However, it still looks potent around EA and Lincolnshire.

NB: I am struggling to refresh the page too, I think it is struggling.

I would love to be able to get to Southend tonight, tide times show a high tide at 5am, which is pretty much perfect!

I can get up there easy as c2c are still running, trouble is getting back!

Part of the rail line at Chawkwell is say 5-10 meters from the sea wall, I can't see c2c operating between Benfleet & Southend tomorrow morning Posted Image

C2C is now cancelled until 9am. Looking quite interesting here on the Thames...

So sad when people wont respect the sea when it is stormy! My kids were taught early in life how dangerous the sea can be. They have to be taught when one lives on the coast.

They might of been taught but kids will be kids at the end of the day. What a tragedy.

14yr old feared drowned in Newhaven after being pulled by the waves into the sea - huge rescue operation underway....

This is why people should not go swimming in the sea on days like this.

This is a warning to all do not go near the sea during these gales

No trains on the london -norwich line till 9am in morn, bit ott????

Yeah and SW Trains, too. To be quiet honest with the current predictions of wind speed, only a few trees in a big area will fall down tonight, here.

K1 buoy down to 990mb. Fallen 5mb in the last two hours.

Any benchmarks - ie. where the storm was expected to be at?

12Z GFS had the low at 990mb at 6pm. If a nearby buoy was 990mb at 5pm then it's a little bit more intense than the model at the moment.

Sadly so many people don't realise that the sea can drag the pebbles away from under ones feet as possibly happened here as reports say they were standing next to the sea, not swimming.

I feel so very sorry for the parents!

The beeb are reporting he was swimming with friends

A 14-year-old boy has been swept away by the sea in Sussex, police say.

Sussex Police received a call at 16:15 GMT to say the boy, who had been swimming with a friend off West Beach in Newhaven, had been "swept away by the current".

A search is under way involving police and the coastguard.

Police have warned people to be careful near the coast during the "imminent serious weather conditions".

Wish I could get down there, trains are still running up to this evening, but like you said I'll be stranded there till 9am at the earliest, and god knows how long it'll take to clear the line if things get bad.

Where abouts are you in Southend btw, on the seafront?

XC Weather shows all the stormy winds to the South West, looks like anywhere inland can only except light winds and breezy gusts.

If this storm doesn't end up causing the slightest disruption to my area which is currently under an Amber Wind Warning, I sure will be criticising the Met Office as they sent me a personal email saying my area is likely to get stormy wind gusts.
