I'm currently in Northern France (Arras) and will be crossing the channel by rail tomorrow. Very much looking forward to seeing the effects of this storm and it looks like I may be well placed to witness some intense wind gusts!

The 87 storm had me stuck in Herne Bay, Kent for 8 days before I could catch a train for London, the rails went rusty. Too many trees and bits of smashed property for the railway to run.

Plus they(national grid) turned off the power because there were that many lines down.

also countless times when it's been the opposite. From what Ian F's posted in the past, the Met Office use several model suites, including a modified NAE model, as well as UKV & MOGREPS, so I'd definitely stick with their forecasts

I guess I can be rather sceptical of the NAE in general to be honest, but with another hi-res model showing even worse, then maybe the main models are not picking up the cyclogenesis that well

Looking at all the updates and current data output.and taking on board Ian F's latest, I'm getting pretty worried as my wife and I have to travel on public transport at 6-20am tomorrow in South Birmingham ! This looks a dodgy time in this neck of the woods, should we delay folks ??

I've not seen this in the threads so far, so here you go - for those saying 50mph isnt much to worry about:

Ok that's not similar to the NAE, it's worse Posted Image

I look at the main areas of warning from the metoffice, and frankly I see if these come off again it's the northern half of East Anglia and maybe even Lincolnshire which will come off worst here. Which seems to differ from the metoffice

Yes those isobars look pretty tightly packed

Is anyone else struggling to refresh the page? I do hope the forum can hold this many people online at once.

looking at all the charts, not sure what all this mad hype is all about. Yes it will be windy for 2-4 hours, then thats it, big deal. Standard wet and windy weather is what I see. Nothing spectacular whatsoever. All this hype on the bbc and sky news is absolutely ludicrous!!

So sad when people wont respect the sea when it is stormy! My kids were taught early in life how dangerous the sea can be. They have to be taught when one lives on the coast.
