Just my luck Telford gets it's first full on torrential thundery downpour of the year when i'm walking to an interview

Had a crack of thunder and literally the most intense hail storm i've seen in my life, could barely see 5 meters in front! rather typical the first/only exciting weather event of the Autumn to come when i'm in the middle of it

The 850 hpa would be colder in winter so the low that came down the eastern side of the uk would of had colder 850hpa uppers rapped around it,

Plus ground temps would been lower as well so snow would of been wide spread.

The system had a mild sector though, so I would have thought limiting snow to hills

A little bit of sleety stuff mixed in with the shower that's just passed through, with a rather sudden strong gust of wind at one point blowing a blizzard of leaves off one of the trees out back. Another 100 meters worth of higher elevation and it probably would have fallen more like wet snow.

This time of the year....YES....mild or slightly warmer sector depends of which way you look at it!

But with that set up in winter there's no such thing as a mild sector, It would still be cold enough for snow Posted Image

Looks like were finally moving into a long spell of settled weather but unfortunately with very little sunshine or frost, here's hoping its sunnier than expected.

hope so, but anything better than rain, only a temporary relief as I feel rain will be back early Dec

That vast area of torrential rain that's about to hit us, it's still cold enough for snow.

And it's heavy enough that evaporative cooling might give us some surprise snowfalls tonight!!!

at just 123m asl, unlikely, report in NW thread at 300m asl, dew point was 0.6C, too high for snow

We've already had hail here, the half melted snowflakes type. So I'll reserve judgement :-)

Thats me its sleeting very gusty wind..... Temp down to 2c dew 0c.... Some chunky flakes in the mix but only if it gets heavier would it turn more to snow than cold sleet.... Heres a hoping and good luck to those further south and higher up and lower down too...

Thank god the Ashes is on! The next 2 weeks in weather terms look about as interesting as a David Dickinson/Geoffrey Boycott stand up comedy show.

Disagree! I just want a break from the rain, even if just 2 weeks
