I hope that wasn't referring to me? I've been a member on here for 6 years or so, but don't tend to post all that much....I'm one of the many lurkers. If it wasn't, apologies.

No it wasn't referring to you Suffolkboy. No offence intended.

The main feature at the moment seems to be the incessant rainfall here for the last 3-4 hours, which makes me wonder if the storm track is actually further south ?  My limited understanding is that the strongest winds are on the southern and southwestern flanks of this low pressure system, with the highest rainfall totals to the north of it.

The winds have picked up here in Brighton with steady rain, gusts fairly strong, I measure them by the sounds coming down the chimney and the leaves on the trees are fairly noisy!  Nothing stronger than we had mid afternoon - not yet

yes stronger winds last 20mins or so

Hearing various rumours about Meto indicating 80kt winds at Heathrow coming from Sky News but it's totally at odds with everything else that's going on, both observationally and forecast-wise.  Anyone here have any Met Office contacts to verify/dispel the story?

Air temp and winds now rising, pressure dropping.

http://www.chimet.co...))/Default.aspx

Since I posted the above all hell is letting loose outside already gusting to 50Knots and extremely heavy rain.

Daughter who lives a quarter mile away has just rung to say they have tiles off of the roof allowing water into the flat above and running down into their flat, right onto their electrical supply!!! now had to turn their electricity off because of the danger of fire. They are one street away from the beach so really catch the wind!

Seems a bit extreme, but the low is further north than predicted, which also means it's developing more intensely causing the lows trajectory to curve more north eastwards.

at present starting to get concerned about flooding

the rain is heavy here and looks likely to continue for quite a while

the story about heathrow i would normally say is nonsense

however tonight you cannot rule it out although does seem a tad on the high side

but who knows

this set up is mega messy

The low, has pulled a Houdini act it appears Posted Image

Confused as the 11pm chart showed the developing wave and the midnight one, there is nothing there. Has the low phased with the parent low over north east Scotland?

Right getting some sleep now. Currently calm with light rain.

Raining hard here in north kent (newington) and no real wind to speak of. Trains also still running (we are very close to the railway line) although I'm not sure if they're passenger trains.

52knot/60mph gusts here now, this is worrying as we are not due to get the worst winds until 3:00am onwards! I hope this is just that it is moving through earlier than predicted! Pressure still dropping to 987 and temperature still rising to 15'3C. looks like being a long night for me.

Hi JP. Thanks as always for your informative posts. I tend to agree that flooding may become an issue in the South East. The rain has been relentless here for several hours and shows no signs of letting up. Couple that with increasing winds and this could be a long night for many.

The met office are saying that the south east will get hit the hardest from 5am in the morning ? where it then moves on to east anglia . Very windy here with heavy rain lashing my window ,cant sleep ! I think the morning commute will be non exsistant where buses & trains are concerned .I personally wont be taking my car out until near on lunchtime ! better to be safe than sorry i reckon x

My lights are flickering and yes, the gusts are stronger and earlier

If it gets any stronger you may have to change your name to something different than Brightlight!

Stay safe and good luck!
