Wide awake now....does'nt help having lots of trees close by as I can hear the wind rushing though the leaves. Not looked outside yet, sounds too scary.

Wind has woke me up - is this it or worse to come?Rain has stopped at some point in the night too.

Morning some of us haven't even gone there yet. The latest that John said was that he thought there is worse to come. The low is still over Bristol Channel way and it doesn't seem to want to move.

More from Sussex police on twitter:

@sussex_police: Power cables brought down in Fir Tree Lane, West Chiltington with resulting local power outages. #sussexstorm

@sussex_police: Man from the Met Office said rain beginning to clear the Hampshire/Sussex border. Still pelting down in Lewes. #sussexstorm

Some rail companies now have timetables up. Starting about 8am on southeastern with 2 trains an hour to London instead of 6-9 on metro lines. Very unlikely most will fit on that. Southern are around 2 an hour on local lines starting about 9am. That seems to continue all day.

Doesn't sound like it's calming down here yet, unfortunately, to noisy for sleep.

Really picked up here in the last 20 minutes. Got a constant rumble in the background.

Yes pretty noticeable now as it increases.  Gusting gale 8 in Harwich Harbour.  Looks like game on for a while.  PS lights just flickered grrr

It should peak between 7 & 8 am as the low moves out over the North Sea and the wind direction backs Westerly.

Now I love this kind of weather but I have to confess I s*** myself a couple of times the gusts have been so strong here ! And its getting worst as I type ! I heard this wire cable go twang a while ago and can hear it in the background somewhere swinging around and making a racket. If anyoneis awake can they tell me if this is the peak or if its going to get worse ? Jesus it really is blowing up out there

I'm surprised more people aren't on here. I've had an hours kip but can't sleep through this racket ! I just had to drive to the petrol station to buy some coffee to stay awake ! Its not too bad out there actually. Lots of leaves but not much in the way of branches. Very mild as well
