Short sharp shower in Egham not too long ago, moved through pretty quickly though. Bit of convection ahead of the main stuff (which incidentally seems to be losing its intensity on the eastern side).

I'm in SE London, convective cloudscapes last seen on that hot evening of 23rd July!.Thought that ship had sailed this year, but alas an early rumble to my west half an hour ago from the SW London cell

That's encouraging at least!

It certainly is chucking it down here in Sussex now, so that bit isn't far off what some forecasts were showing.

Ive just seen something that looks remarkably like a shelf cloud pass over Watford. Couldn't get my camera in time to take a picture though. Strange.

Certainly very turbulent looking skies. Lots of scud-type clouds lower down too.

Same out here in Kent. And I've just been thinking similar comparisons to you! It really is a mid-summer convective sky out there at the moment.

And just as I type this, the first rain starts falling. Now let's get those strikes to cross the Channel...

Why is it that any "events" that come up from the south seem to split and in the main avoid or brush N Berks/Bucks area? This exact same pattern was observed a few times over the winter when snow was incoming and we ended up with very little snow.

So the west will get hammered, the eastern segment will die as soon as it gets north of London, aka the same as every other southerly event this year.

Simply I expect no rain whatsoever today, let alone thunderstorms Posted Image

Anvils... Looks menacing... Mum saw a funnel cloud about half hour ago

Yes, just saw that you said your mum saw something out her way too. Maybe things ARE kicking off.

Tbh, I'm happy if there aren't any whizz bangs until later, my daytime lightning photography leaves a lot to be desired. That said I've got to do my penance at the Gym later so it'll be just my luck it'll all kick off and I'll be treadmilljng oblivious..

Had a reasonable shower for around 15 minutes earlier, now it's damp out there with maybe very light rain on and off, but just grey skies otherwise. At least that means 3 different weather types by lunchtime:)

Had a few heavy showers here too.  Got caught in a couple whilst out on my bike.  I need windscreen wipers on my glasses. :(

Looking forward to seeing what we end up with as we move into late afternoon and overnight. Certainly is a very interesting and rare situation to have this pattern of weather in early october. Unfortunately i am working outside until midnight in west london but thankfully i remembered my coat.
