Clearing here, but no dew yet. I don't imagine it will be long, though, given the RH.

It's looking to me we are going to miss quite a bit of the action tomorrow. Only the far West of the region catching something ' torrential ' again the low to our South West has been forcast too far East

We missed the action today as well.....you had to be in Ireland for that, they only went and got themselves a Tornado in Galway, tis the luck of the Irish for you  Posted Image

That Galway video was a good find MK, it certainly looks as though it was more than just a funnel cloud Posted Image

Well for the 2nd night in succesion I was rudely awoken  at 2am by the sound of railway maintenance work being carried out just yards from my bedroom window. Pneumatic drills, workmen shouting above the din, then engineering trains going back and forth. The amount of work being carried out on this section of track is ridiculous, it's been going on for 3 or 4 years now on and off, with no end in sight.

I consoled myself by watching this particular gem on BBC I - Player though. ' The Great British Year ', first episode was shown on BBC 1 last night

( Wednesday October 2nd ) at 9pm and covers winter. Whatever you may think of the BBC they are top notch when it comes to programmes like this and I'm sure it will appeal to a good many of you folk.

Just to drag my post back on topic, it's another mild and humid night here, currently 14c with not a breath of wind. I see the main storm threat seems to have shifted further west, but our region may be in with a shout later in the day. Whatever your weather preference, have a good Thursday. Posted Image

If the main storm threat.. err no that is not treat...well for some... depends...I mean if it is more west then we complain when its more east so what is the problem? if the convective activity runs up the system then as it shift this way then more chance of catching something interesting or letting something up in front of it?

Good morning all!

The irony of this is not lost on me:

National Poetry Day: 'Water, water everywhere'

‘Water’ is the subject of this year’s National Poetry Day, Thursday 3 October, inspired by Coleridge’s mariner’s famous cry: “Water, water, everywhereâ€.

http://www.poetrysociety.org.uk/content/info/npd/

So here's a contribution for today:

How beautiful is the rain!
After the dust and heat,
In the broad and fiery street,
In the narrow lane,
How beautiful is the rain!
How it clatters along the roofs
Like the tramp of hoofs!
How it gushes and struggles out
From the throat of the overflowing spout!
Across the window-pane
It pours and pours;
And swift and wide,
With a muddy tide,
Like a river down the gutter roars
The rain, the welcome rain!

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

From the UKASF forecast for today:

Most models then simulate a second round of elevated showers/thunderstorms across southern counties towards evening, running northeast towards coastal parts of East Anglia and the southern North Sea during the late evening and early hours of Friday. Given strong ThetaE gradient/ridge and 600-800J/kg MLCAPE, this appears to have better potential for more widespread/frequent lightning activity, and it is possible we may consider to upgrade Kent and East Sussex to a MDT if conditions still look favourable during Thursday. These cells may produce hail up to 2.0cm in diameter, and strong, gusty winds. While the majority of showers/storms will be rooted above the boundary layer, if a surface-based storm could develop then it may benefit from sufficient DLS and LLS, with perhaps supercell-like characteristics and a potential for a tornado.

Even here could get a direct hit if that more easterly cell carries on in a straight line. Looks like a wet later-on coming up - I'm looking forward to it considering the rather uneventful weather that's going to follow.
