Uniformly grey in Brighton now.  Quite a breeze as we hacked around the Roedean cafe pitch and putt, followed by unhealthy and delicious bacon/sausage/egg* sarnies (*delete as appropriate).

Um rain, not what I would call a nice day

I think today was always a dubious one in our area (as alluded to by JP, when he mentioned the troublesome warm front) Tomorrow looks way better. :)

Well, not been that blistering in Brighton today. About 45 minutes of sunny-ish between 9 and 10am then the cloud filled in and it has remained overcast all day with brief outbreaks of drizzle (can you have an 'outbreak' of something so feeble?). Still, we have been out and about most of the day, picked some blackberries, played very bad pitch and putt, saw a bird of prey, removed hundreds of thistle seeds from the dog, and picked 2 whole sloes!

It's a crazy life I lead.

According to the MetO, it reached 18.7 C near here. It certainly didn't feel that warm and has been grey all day.

Clear skies here now and Arcturus is near the western horizon - someone questioned this a few days ago - follow the curve of the handle of the

Plough ( away from the main part of the constellation ) and you'll see it. It's the brightest star visible from our part of the World, apart from Sirius, and is orange in colour, being a red giant star.

Very mild too. No more than a t-shirt needed for a late stroll.Posted Image I'll certainly enjoy the warm weather while it's here.Posted Image

hi all

a tad dreary today

lets see if we can get some sun in the next few days

fax update that i have

Posted Image

tomorrow

a weak east south easterly

after a misty start

cloud should ease and there should be some sunny spells

however some areas could stay similar to today

temps

Posted Image

somewhere around 20 degrees

and starting to feel humid late in the day

should stay dry but a small chance of some cloud incoming from the south to give some very light drizzly bits

overnight dry and fairly warm

fog poss on the south coastal and far south east coastal areas

Posted Image

monday

a very weak southerly flow

temps

Posted Image

this i feel will be our warmest day

should be around 22-25 degrees and a better chance of seeing the sun (typical monday Posted Image )

staying dry with less cloud around

overnight

warm dry and misty

Posted Image

tuesday

a variable flow but mainly southerly

staying dry

cloud again becoming an issue

temps

Posted Image

20-22 degrees maybe a shade higher if the sun gets out

temps

around 18 degrees

Posted Image

thursday

a very weak south to south east flow

fog risk on the up again

got a feeling this looks cloudy again and watch the front to our north-north east

Just been out for a last minute walk with the dog along the sea front in Brighton, down the quiet end towards the marina, No wind to speak of any more but plenty of trainee sea fog auditioning for its first full-time Autumn and Winter role.  Not doing a bad job, impressively moody, slightly lightweight but with lots of potential. Sea Fog (not the greatest name),,,,,,It's a yes from me!

Lovely clear night here at the moment, the moon shining brightly, hope it stays clear too. Somewhere managed 24C today which was unexpected and if the skies are clear tomorrow round here we could easily get higher than that with a little luck Posted Image

Also, potential plume at the end of the week?

Posted Image

When that low phases with the jet it could send a lot of warm humid air our way and perhaps some thunderstorms???

Very uncertain but worth watching, interesting to see the ECM in particular trying to make the south hold on to the warm air all week.

Thanks Cap'n, well put and full of optimism, can't ask for much more than that at Saturday midnight!

The only storm chance I think is when the trough to our south west tries to re-engage the jet and move northwards, if it moves favourably then it could bring the warmth back over us and perhaps drag some heavy and thundery weather from the Bay of Biscay, would be nice as I think this is the end of warmth until probably next March/April at the earliest Posted Image

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
