Great crack of thunder here, went on for about 10 seconds! Seems to get ever closer to my location, going to be an interesting night!

Nice deep thunder just heard. Less frequent lightning but a lot brighter.

Cracking lightning show going on to the SW of me right now. Looking at the sferics it seems a distance from me yet (Chippenham, Wiltshire) but lighting up the night sky good and proper! Only hearing the odd very distant rumble of thunder so far.

Stood at my patio door watching the sky light up now and again. Can only just hear the rumbles of thunder.

And here comes the rain. Looks like it's about to pass overhead. Deep booming thunder now.

The flash I saw just then....!! Lit the whole sky up pink... This is an epic storm! And another... whole sky lit up. Amazing.

I love a night storm. Shows off Mother Nature so well.

Temperatures still at 19c near Wolverhampton according to netweather extra v6! That is ridiculously warm for an October night.

I am still contemplating heading out towards Brum......

Great, great storm! The best lightning display for years, I counted over 20 flashes in just one minute at the height of it. Watched the anvil coming up from the south west and then loud booming thunder and even a close cg as it went through. The odd flash now.

Hmm, that depends if it can hold its strength. The fact it has managed to all the way from the Dorset coast to Wiltshire and Bristol area bodes well.

Netweather lightning detector not showing that much lightning but reports are of several flashes a minute.

But those odd flashes are mighty ones at that! Getting the thunder going here now. Long, deep rumbles.

I can vouch for the several flashes a minute. I've been able to watch it for over 45 mins from where I am and it's only just passing over now.

I'm no expert at predicting what storms are going to do next, I'll admit, but I hope that it lasts out so you can enjoy too!

From Ian, 8mins ago!

W COUNTRY Trajectory of storm will then cross fair part of Glos. Further showers follow from SW for many areas. Thundery element possible.

Haha our towns powers been knocked out. Torrential rain last 10 minutes or so calming down now. Lightning not as frequent anymore right here but can still see flashes to the East in the distance.

Good luck to y'all in the SE! As for my location, I just something happens with those small bunch of showers to the SE of Plymouth.

Edit:Something pepping up now to the SW of Plymouth!

Look at what happened to those showers!

I'm off to bed. That was awesome. Epic rain and some great lightning. Even a green sky.

Looks like more following on from behind possibly?

  • Chilly with an increasing risk of frost

Once Monday's band of rain fades, the next few days will be drier. However, it will feel cool, even cold, in the breeze or under gloomy skies, with an increasing risk of frost. Read the full update here

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming. Week Ahead: Cool but largely dry until later in the week, when low pressure returns

We keep a chilly northerly flow going through much of the coming week, especially noticeable in the east. Cloud and rain spreading south Monday, but after that, most places largely dry until later in the week, when it looks to turn more showery. Read the full update here
