Just got this through from a friend - shows the bridge in Hockley under water!   Easing a little - but now up to  87.3mmPosted Imagehockley bridge.jpg

Blimey! Always used to be a trouble spot during heavy rain until they did the drains. Not sufficient to cope with today's deluge. Traffic lights look like they gave up the ghost early!

85.2mm now in Rayleigh and still falling!

Crikey!!! Over 3 inches of rain in one afternoon! That's amazing. But the radar does show your spot has been stuck under the heaviest falls all afternoon. Surely (if there's a measuring station nearby) it will come up as the country's wettest place today??

I thought we'd had a wet few hours here, just to your south, but we've only had 14mm. Pales into insignificance compared to your stats. A few miles can make a huge difference!

I feel your rainfall gauge is inaccurate! just to the north east of you and nearer to 40mm but saying that it might be mine! :)

Only had light rain here so far, it dry at the moment but feels very muggy.

It's rained here most of the day but the last 2 hours have been torrential! Our patio is under a good few inches of water and it's never been totally submerged in 30 years!

Also seen a video of Southend seafront under a good foot of water which has entered the amusement arcades and shops, hell the ice cream signs were floating down the street & apparently the water stinks!

Excellent day here, that rain would have put Northgate street under water again Posted Image

Blimey where is that? Ashingdon?

Near, Hockley

Doesn't surprise me - used to live near that bridge and have never seen it that bad.. My station has recorded 92.4mm so far and looking at some of the pictures coming in a few miles east/west of Rayleigh I don't think its far off..  We've been stuck under the main intense zone from around midday and it hasn't stopped at all.

No, even the seafront has flooded hasn't it, and the tides out, lol

Torrential rain here for the past 90 mins, drains are filling up and pouring into my neighbour's garage. Can see the pour bugger brushing the water away :(

Interesting to see just how narrow the area was: Have checked out various weather stations following the A127 from London out towards Southend/Leigh on Sea:

Daily rain totals currently recorded as follows

Epping   14.5mm

Harold Hill   14.7mm

Upminster   31.0mm

Rayleigh South   16.5mm - think this might be a glitch/typo

Laindon     68.6mm

Eastwood Leigh on Sea 63.3mm

Southend on Sea 69.6mm

Just glad this lot didn;t fall in Sussex otherwise I;d be under 1m of water now!

95.7mm on my station and its getting heavier again - lots of reports on Rayleigh facebook groups about houses along London Road and Downhall Park Way in Rayleigh being flooded and roads breaking up. Seems Rayleigh and Hockley have been worst hit.
