Would expect heaviest rain eventually to migrate south and east of the river, as the shallow low starts to transfer towards the Belgian/French border,

The ppn animation is backing up what you're saying, Tom. Plus I can confirm it has just started raining here again now.

Thought I heard a rumble of thunder a few minutes ago. The problem is I keep forgetting we are now slap bang under the flight path of EasyJet descending from the south, now that they're flying into Southend Airport!

Had some heavy rain here in the last couple of hours but looks to be clearing slowly. More noteworthy is the cool temp...currently 18C, brr!

Thanks aj - been a bit tied up here this morning (not literally) Posted Image

Still spots of rain here, although there are hints of the sun trying to break through, interested in the rain that seems to be expanding over Milton Keynes

I hadn't noticed..... it certainly seems a bit brighter than when I last looked out  Posted Image

Sun briefly out here as low cloud lifting from time to time, albeit very briefly at moment! Temp 18.1c. Surpressed compared to recent warm days.

Love that walk. Used to do it a lot when a friend of mine lived in Kingston. But, yep, looking at the radar animation I reckon it could get a bit soggy this afternoon!

Already has! Even lost Mr Stelling for a while after heavy rain stopped the satellite signal. Will do the 'park the car and do a shorter walk' option instead:)

Here is the latest radar grab showing the heavy rain over Essex & London area. Seems to be breaking up into East Anglia & Herts slightly.

Heavy rain started here 10 minutes ago, although we've had nowhere near the rainfall of south Essex. I can see that some main roads are now closed there due to flooding.

Well, woke up seeing 3mm on the weather station thinking "damp squib" - 10 hours later and it's now showing 31.5mm with more heavy rain pouring. Southend Vic - Liv St line is flooded at Prittlewell, A127 is closed near Basildon and Greensward Lane bridge at Hockley under water.... Biggest rain event here for a long time.

The two chaps building a new porch on the house opposite me have finally allowed the rain to make them call it a day!

Here, on the other hand, are a couple of chaps who aren't letting the rain bother them. (Sorry for the poor quality. Zoom not the best on the camera.)

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
