Don't worry Pete, you will get all the snow in winterPosted Image

They were saying we would get all the thunderstorms in the summer back in March after that fail, all the march events gave most coastal areas snow except for a small triangular area around the Gt Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Beccles area, hence the triangle of doom was born and it's existence has ruined every event since then Posted Image

Lots of thick cirrus and a little bit of altocumulus castalleanus to Newton Poppleford Weather's WSW. :D

Have been posting in the SE Forum this afternoon - 78.3mm of rain so far in Rayleigh today & South Essex is turning into one huge flooded mess...  Not one clap of thunder though Posted Image

Yes William - now up to 86.4mm here since midnight..  We had 3mm when I got up at 7am but it's been torrential all afternoon.   Southend and surrounding areas a no-go zone.   Look at bbc.co.uk/travelnews/Essex to see what I mean.   Not bad for the driest area of the UK!

Well tonight is one night when for once i am hoping there will not be a thunderstorm.

Sitting in a tent next to a lake with fishing rods is not a place i would like to be in a storm!

Right underneath the convergence zone and the clouds don't know where to go, one minute there are moving W-E, then they move E-W...VERY strange!

Just goes to show that although there has only been a small amount of rain here the warnings were not overplayed. The BBC did say that totals would vary a lot from place to place and this looks to be what happened.

Not a lot of T+L though which considering the charts was to be expected, although the parameters on this mornings suite of charts did look more hopeful for thundery activity across SE parts. Still, the fact that there has been some lightning and thunder means that their forecast was essentially correct in this case too.

The only criticism I could have is that the area affected was not as widespread as the warnings covered, but being a service that needs to keep the public informed of potential severe weather then they must cover all possibilities - and 50 miles east or west is a tiny amount in forecasting terms. Thus, this is not really a criticism.

Could nocturnal cooling take pace again tonight for another light show, that would be three consecutive nights of lightning.

It's been pouring in Maidstone since about 2. Would imagine high rainfall totals here.

36mm rain from the overnight period/mid afternoon today. One flash of lightning at night, visible as a weak flicker behind the curtains. One day I will actually see proper CG lightning at night again.....

Mention of showers, some heavy with chances of thunder on Sunday..nothing too widespread mind.

Nite peeps.

Could be some beefy ones over E Devon.

My guess is that the showery rain currently sitting NW of London will move W/SW towards SW England and pep up today with a little convection. Or, that rain could dissipate and showers form anywhere by convection.

At the moment, I think Tuesday is the only day (at least this week) to watch. The previous run on the UK CAPE+Lifted Index chart for Tue 27/09 18:00 shows around 300 - 400 j/kg and Lifted Index of -1 for Devon. Whereas, the current run on the UK CAPE+Lifted Index chart for Tue 27/09 18:00 shows around 200 - 300 j/kg and Lifted Index of 1, so not so good there but it's still possible. Maybe, this could pep up the rain on Sunday Evening. It does show the rain turning heavier and more showery on the BBC Weather graphics, if you look closely. :D
