The first projected snowfall for lowland Svalbard tomorrow, with a veil of cloud bearing rain and snow moving from the SW during the day, by the late afternoon, Longyearbyen should be seeing its first snow of the long winter ahead. Could be quite a snowy evening up there for them- you can track it here:

http://longyearbyen.livecam360.com/flash/main.php

I'm going to start bookmarking all of the webcam sites you chaps are putting up, as we wait for our own will-it-wont it snow fix over the next few L-O-O-O-N-G months:)

This one is fun - road cameras in Lapland/Finland.

http://www2.liikennevirasto.fi/alk/english/kelikamerat/kelikamerat_5.html

Click an area on the green map on the left and then on the individual camera marked on the map. Then back to the green map again for more.

My personal favourite is Lapland kamera-C1450701. As winter progresses the lake either side of the road disappears under the snow and ice.

I love this thread, followed it all last year, having said that it did tease us a lot last year, far more snow seemed to be moving towards us that in 2011 and it fizzed out.

Hi Iceni,

This is my personal favourite, great to watch the snowline drop further down the mountain, as we head through Autumn.

You do realise we're both nuts, don't you? Discussing our favourite Finnish road cameras... Holey Moley

But I like it Posted Image  When the snow starts I get quite obsessive and click every single one in the country.

Apologies if its been posted already but I think this is my favourite webcam that I found after someone posted it around this time last year. Just noticed it has had a bit of the white stuff this morning. http://www.webcam-4insiders.com/de/Wetter-Kleine%20Scheidegg/1026-Kleine%20Scheidegg-Wetter.php

I couldn't be happier personally, I love looking at snowy webcams... as I often say to my son 'What's so great about normal anyway?!' So thanks chaps, nuts or otherwise, it's much appreciated by this snow fanPosted Image

As we all seem to have spotted, the snow has indeed been more plentiful overnight, with both these locations showing more snow than yesterday:

Edit: Oops, have been adding them all to my favourites bar on my work computer; can't wait to explain that one to the students or the IT team next time they go through everything....

Cheers for that, it will be going straight in the bookmarks!

Any time f1fPosted Image  I am looking for decent live feeds this winter hopefuly from the far north, it seems like still captures  are the norm and hd 360 ones not a bad stop gap!

I see that it snowed lower down over night post-15601-0-06944700-1378923037_thumb.jand them melted by 11am  should be the same tomorrow.

I think we are seeing the weather put a toe in the water before the winter top board plunge!

snow on the forecast is not being matched by the cam. Perhaps yr.no is being too progressive I will have to check out other sites less snow frendly Posted Image

That comparison is like night and day lol..  the Siberian side of the Ice pack def seems to be the coldest atm.

Having said that, todays image shows some rather decent Melting of the Ice. Where the Ice pack touched land yesterday, it's retreated somewhat.

The freshly frozen ice around the edges would still appear to be susceptible to the weather.

Lets just hope it doesn't get 'locked up' with a strong PV this winter. Otherwise it will be a loooooong desperate winter of chart model watching.

Last year was wonderfull in terms of Snow Advance Index! Right now there shouldn't be much snowfall. Just wait 2 1/2 weeks, the beginning of october. http://dosbat.blogspot.nl/2011/12/cold-winters-snow-advance-index.html for some details about SAI.
