Yes your man posted a few charts and it seems from about the end of this week the 0c uppers arrive. To be honest i've been looking at the gfs and the warm weather ends here from tomorrow. I am predicted a high of 9c tomorrow and the next day.

Finland especially doing well for snowcover, at this juncture, compared to those previous years, shown by Dww above.

More expected in the next few days over N.Finland.

Looking really good now! I am expecting some melt in Norway over the next couple of days though but still good nonetheless especially over Asia.

There's some decent cover across Asia at the more Southerly latitudes - that bodes well for a strat warming event at some point I'd think.

Snow cover is exceptional.  No two ways about it.

That snow cover is mad.

All the people moaning about models for 2 months from now and the dreaded mild winter need to pop in here and look at some hard facts.

Facts? No no, there are no definites when it comes to getting either a mild or a cold winter right now. The snow cover might be a good thing for increasing the chances of a cold winter but it still doesn't guarantee anything. Edited by Harve

In throwoff's defence, referring to snowcover is far more factual than weeping incessantly because the models are showing zonal weather in October. Edited by NorthernRab

staring down the barrel of the gun.

Look at the snow profile compared to 2010, the shape of the 'wedge'.

Later time but the snow line and green line has to line up at the UK for us to be 'in for it'.

Perspective !!!!

its not a fact that high levels of snowcover over asia will lead to a cold nw european winter. Asian snowcover in autumn is just part of the jigsaw. there are plenty other pieces that will have to fall right. To say that a lack of october snowcover in asia is not helpful re having a cold winter for us is a reasonable statement but its not definitive either.

Just be careful about pinning all your hopes on one factor. It never works like that.

No one's saying that, people are simply saying that it's factually true that snowcover over Asia increases the likelihood of a cold winter.

6th consecutive day with the IJIS sea ice extent growth below the 2002 to 2012 average. Even with continued slow growth, we should remain above 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 until at least November though.
