Think I heard a rumble from that cell to my east.

You most likely did, a few sferics from it now. Looks like northern England's turn for something this evening.

Think that'll be my lot now though, unless more develop west of here. Was a nice surprise though!

The thunder is getting more frequent now.. every few seconds. Not much in the way of lightning though.

Can any one tell me what the chances of thunder activity in portsmouth area for the weekend please

It is difficult to pick a specific place out at this range. Take today for instance, different models still could not get a true handle on where storms would be even by this morning. However, there certainly looks to be the scope for thunderstorms around the country, with the highest risk appearing to be Friday night into Saturday.

Using the latest GFS the south coast looks to be at a moderate to high risk of storms throughout Saturday, this including Portsmouth. Sunday the risk is lower although there is still a risk there.

Lovely day here but spoilt by a torrential 20 minute downpour about an hour ago.

Never heard any thunder though and dry again now.

Wow, this is turning into a very good display - very frequent lightning albeit to my east, but just had an overhead flash and loud, elongated crack.

I wish Newton Poppleford Weather was having these thunderstorms.

Really kicking off to the east of Garforth! York and surrounding areas look to be in the firing line next.
