Thunder, lightning and torrential driving rain here in Yatton now. Very nice gust front just coming across with scud swirling around ahead of it and a slight green tinge to what looks like a whale's mouth type cloud formation. Didn't expect that!

Some bouts of red on the radar earlier today

Not surprised getting reports of flooding for parts of North Devon (Barnstaple / Ilfracombe)

Train services disrupted

To add to the forecast above, it's quite possible for a couple of thunderstorms to develop tomorrow afternoon with the benefit of diurnal heating and weak CAPE too.

Yay, I got that bit right then! lol. :)Enjoy any storms down there, I'm at work in Bescot near Walsall currently.

Nice to seem some development, albeit a few hours later than was first thought.

Sadly, the SW and Wales do not need anymore rain, and sadly this is set to continue for the next few hours at least.

I could see the gust front moving in from work. I had to get 3 stories up but my o my it looked incredible. Unfortunately my backlight is not working on my phone so had to guess where the camera was.... I found it and probably took 50 photos of it hoping 1 would be good. I shall check them out and upload once home (if they are any good).

Sunny bright and a bit of cloud about all day here until 5.30 when a sudden deluge occurred, 20.5mm in the space of 12mins!! A couple of rumbles of thunder but saw no lightning. Second heavy shower starting as I type!

Tomorrow's forecast map;

post-12721-0-77774100-1375732289_thumb.j

A much easier and simpler forecast for tomorrow. Sunny spells with a scattering of showers, some heavy by the afternoon.

Areas in the red area, which includes parts of Devon, Somerset, BANES and parts of Wiltshire look prone to receive the heaviest showers, possibly with a rumble or two of thunder too. As ever, not everywhere will catch them and some will stay dry.

Elsewhere, more isolated showers are still possible but the main theme will be good sunny spells inbetween some cloudcover.

Temperatures in the West Country and Central Southern England should reach the low twenties. Devon & Cornwall only reaching the high teens.

Simple as! :)

THURS update @bristolballoon sees sunny spells; mostly or wholly dry; poss a few scattered light & short-lived PM showers; Night Glow all OK

FRI @bristolballoon weak overnight front gives cloudier conditions AM, some light rain poss. Bit breezier, but brighter PM for @rafredarrows

To give an idea of how much rainfall parts of Cornwall etc have had, here's an accumulated rainfall map using the radar, courtesy of Matt Hugo!

Feeling and smelling very fresh this morning after the lowest temp since 25th June! The min was 10.2c but should pick up quickly with sunny spells.

I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks from tonight so will miss the West Country banter, going to be enjoying similar temps to those we had for much of July!
