Incredible here from 9.30 till around10.30.... At one point were regularly getting lightning every 30 seconds...the thunder seemed constant.....I have never seen such frequent strikes in my life....amazed the kids slept thru it although there were never any gigantic claps of thunder over the house like in November 2010

Having just looked at the radar thought I would shut a few hayshed doors.Went outside and  felt a warm almost hot wind .It is currently 20 c here there has to be a storm on its way. Cloud from the south has just obscured the moon.

Moving off north now, but can't complain. Just been treated to 30 mins of loud thunder (some shotgun), CG lightning, fork lightning and torrential rain. Slap bang overhead :D. Still flashes in the distance now, fingers crossed for more

Certainly a lot of rain here and lightning visible every minute or so in both directions but with minimal thunder (although having said that there is a bit more around now). A fair amount of cloud to cloud lightning but I think most of it isn't in our immediate vicinity.

Still hope for Thursday, CAPE potentially a bit more favourable than even today so it'll be worth keeping an eye on certainly:

Thereafter a continuing risk of storms, though perhaps less severe, as low heights to the southwest continue to slowly build in and plumes of warmer upper air move up from the continent:

edit: it really seems to be overhead now, about 3-4 seconds between a big crack and a loud rumble of thunder.

All that thunder has woken me from my estivation...

The weathergods be angry...

Some screen captures from a mobile vid of this evening's superb thunderstorm around Crieff (from half 9 to around 11ish). The lightning was striking the local hill above the town, known as The Knock.

Nature in full and epic fury - a magnificent sight.

Back to sleep again now. See you all when the clocks go back.

Yup, not long passed overhead here too, woke up to some very loud bangs but passed on quite quickly.

Just watching the garden getting a good soaking now.

Thunder & lightning periodically here since 5am-ish, accompanied by sporadic bursts of moderate rain which clears the mist. Too misty to see any forks, but some flashes have been seen through the mist.

Haar this morning following rain with intermittent thunder and lightning yesterday evening. I'm on holiday for the rest of the week with family visiting. Unfortunately the forecast looks awful! :-(

Thunderstorm arriving here at last!

Yep, at 5am I was raised from my slumber. As I was half awake I was wondering "what the heck is that?" as a loud, long rumbling sound became apparent. Once I was fully awake I realised that it was thunder and for the next 15 mins or so there were at least another 6 flashes of lightening accompanied by very heavy rain. I couldn't see any of the lightening bolts directly from the bathroom window but if they weren't overhead they were pretty close. Didn't last long though and I was back in bed trying to get back to sleep.

Yesterday evening was very humid. I went for a run and was literally dripping by the time I got back. This morning we were still under a heavy band of rain when I got up for, and drove to work. Eased off as I approached Dyce and now it's just very grey and misty.

A Liverpool win, crikey.

O, the weather....  mmm, cloudy, warm, clegs & midges abound. I'd almost forgotten about clegs.

East Sutherland was bathed in a sort of faint pink mist last night, almost pornographic in a nice way.  No, forget the porn bit, it was much nicer.

Am i right in thinking these storms today could manifest out of nothing really , that one currently moving up towards Port Glasgow , sprung from nowhere.

A shower over night that has all but disappeared. Very oppressive  with a few rumbles in the distance and a hot 26c so heat still here. Could do with a good thunderstorm to clear the air. Thunder bugs (corn lice) are  also  making life miserable outside for humans and animals another reason we need a good soak.

I'll swap your thunderbugs for my clegs any day.  I'll even throw in the midges to sweeten the deal. <slap swipe curse scratch smack thwack splat>

Fortunately the forecast was way off. Instead of cloud and showery rain its been dry all day and the sun has been out since 11am. 21c in a light easterly breeze.

Is it wrong that I'm basing my decision on whether to go to the Catch-in-Laws' house tonight on this question "is there more chance of a storm there or here?" ? As it stands the best chance looks to be there

If I had any in-laws and a car and there was going to be a storm I'd be off in a sec hahaLittle bit of convection here in Coatbridge. Maybe it will develop and give a good dumping to those further north.

Game set and match according to Mrs Northernlights who one August several years ago heard me cursing and swearing as I walked up through a field of barley covered in thunderbugs. As I walked past the house she shouted out "They are only Gods little creatures".
