Wear what you like... as long as you're happy it ain't no one else business... Although I do think blokes walking around topless isn't really appropriate for the street. Perhaps if women were to do the same that'd make it better! Posted Image

Glad to have started an intelligent debate. Now I'm off to the pub dressed, rather rakishly,in my slacks, formal shirt and possibly cravat. Now where did I put my pipe?

Elementary, my dear Watson!

Promising here re. cloud amounts- we've still got the moist westerly flow (which is forecast to subside by tomorrow) and the cloudy skies earlier in the day largely vanished a couple of hours ago.

All clear here too - feels lovely walking around now.

Tomorrow should warm the house up (it's still only around 19-20c today due to lack of sun this morning) then we're finally into proper summer!

23.9c outside today and edging up from now on - great stuff!

The warm spell has got going here in fine style. It felt very warm and even though it was breezy it was a lovely warm breeze.

Yep, 24c and already clear blue skies. Excellent day. Now non stop sunshine for the forthcoming future. I expect easterners may be complaining mid week there is cloud but for us in the west, all systems go for lots of sun and warmth!

Yes, I suspect there will be a moaning thread at some point next week so people in the east (possibly myself included) can complain about what a short-lived and thoroughly average spell of weather it has turned out to be.. if ECM and UKMO are correct. I'm starting to doubt this spell will rival May 2012 for the sunniness - 10 days of sunshine.

We need a set up like 2006 or 1995 or 1990, which would deliver the hottest conditions to the places that are supposed to get them. :p

Well what's your location? I will be moaning about missing the cooler weather if I am too far west

The temperatures wont be the talking point about this spell. It will be the persistence of high pressure. August 1990 saw an incredibly warm spell but it only lasted 4/5 days before it came to an abrupt halt with a cool northerly.

Just where the GFS has 30c next Friday.

Yeah I saw that! Hope it comes off, but it's a  bit far out.

Well, if the high pressure doesn't deliver days upon days of sunshine for here, it will have been in vain, and it will be disappointing to get cooler temperatures than elsewhere since we're usually a good place for heat. We'll wait and see I guess.

All three of those years saw widespread heat which didn't favour your location. In fact, the highest temperature of those three years was recorded at Cheltenham in the west (37.1C on 3rd August 1990).

I'll be happy to take an offshore breeze giving higher temps down here, since usually in hot spells we have onshore winds or sea breezes so are cooler than many  places Posted Image

I believe 1976 had a similar set up with in late June that gave the highest June temp ever recorded in the UK at Southampton, but of course with hotter temperatures.

Well, 'duh', it's in the south, naturally it will be warmer. I'm referring to those jammy sods over in Ireland!

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
