All seems unreal , especially as temps are very mild not far to the east of the boundary front. We are really right in the mix and watching the cloud formations and the almost rain to snow formation is all encompassing . Another pulse expected tonight in this never ending battle.

The snow depths are really mounting up and should hopefully give a good base to a long ski season hopefully

Yes, the piste to are out working on a foundation. Very heavy and warm snowmass not the best but better than none. Hopefully, temps will start to stay below freezing day and night so binding and compression of the snowfall will be much better for longevity . That Med sourced airmass never too far away at the moment, so slush conditions could be rapid if Fohn develops.  Fingers crossed.

Its arrived. Another 30 cm expected overnight. This is crazy weather. Just locked. Gets some pictures in the morning.

Back in Fohn conditions with heavy rain now. Freezing level  above 1900m. Presently just in the warm side of the frontal boundary. Reports of min of as high as 13c towards Klagenfurt. Crazy set up.

This is like a typical big snow event here.
Kind of wet, heavy and difficult to plough out

Hi, the snow turned to rain in the morning. Heavy conditions with some thaw but now turning back to snow. Still a deep covering. Weird weather along the frontal boundary that ebbs and flows between cold and milder air.

Good base layer for the winter start! It's warmer now and the coming weekend very likely too, but then it could get colder again for the December start. Fingers crossed :).

Yes, snowing this evening as the winds comes around the high from the NE. High building this weekend sunny condition expected above the inversion. Hopefully, the high will not stagnate. If it centre moves towards the British Isles we usually get a colder feed with better snow prospects. Currently plenty of snow depth at 1500m and above.

Mid morning beer breaks in the mountains . That's the way to ski !  Sparkling morning in the Eastern Alps. Current temp at 1500m is -5c with a keen NELy wind and snow flurries. My favourite conditions. Looks like being a sunny few days in the mountains as the high pressure builds and warming up at medium elevation as the heavy weight air sinks. Possibly cold and foggy in the valleys under the inversion which is not unusual under high cell.

This is Gitty, owner of the Assenbaurerhutte in Katschberg. She is pouring homemade schnapps ready for the Saturday crowd They are lethal. You will power down a black run after one or two of those with no fear ! or just collapse and fall to sleep.

Typical  April weather extremes in the Austrian Mountains. Yesterday was very cold with snow flurries and temp down to -9c late last evening. Today, mild and sunny and current temp 9C.
