Back yesterday from a rainy mild Swedish Christmas and woke up to 30cm fresh fall of snow overnight.

A few useless information facts about Austro/ Anglo relations:

1. 1 million Brits visit Austria each year.

2.British visitors are the 4 th largest nation group in overnight stays.

3.10,000 Brits live in Austria

4. 25,000 Austrians live in UK.

5. 50% of all Austrians exports to the UK are in manufacturing.

6. Jaguar/ Landrover  is the biggest employer in the state of Styria.

7. Most Austrian Banks are free from City of London financial backing.

8. Austria has told the EEC that it will not pay increase funds to compensate the loss of UK contributions.

9/ Austria has a massive trade surplus with the UK, and has 100 companies based in the UK.

10. Prediction.. trouble brewing ahead--- the far right want Sud Tirol back in Austria. Political dynamite , that one.

We nearly destroyed Austro/Anglo relations when we wore our swim suits in the sauna/steam room at the hotel - got told off for not being in our birthday suits and no one would stay in the same room as us!

Yes , its funny. The Brits do not do all tackle out. The Germans like to swan around in all their glory ! The Austrians hardly use the things but its a big tourist plus for our ^big^ German neighbours as so to speak. Personally, I have one at home, which I like to use on my own so I can have 40 winks. Would never share with anyone, especially with a big show off German !!

Yes Nick, no Wilhelm Von-dangly bits striding over my naked body! You just have to love the Brits for their sense of modesty. They queue ever so politely, whether it being at dinner, for the ski lifts or in the chaotic scrum of the ski -hire shop.  They are such tolerant folk of great virtue. I love having a drink and chat with them out here. Our Tuetonic friends have a lot to learn from them.

One of the best locations in Katchberg is the Pritz Hutt in the nearby pristine Gontal Valley. No cars , horses and walkers only about 45 min brisk hike from the village centre. Simple mountain fodder and good ale. Andi the horseman plays all sorts of tradition music there and elsewhere in the village. Great spot this.

Do you have any close up pics of the ski runs apart from the web cams ie like the 2 from the last two days.

Seaside60, thought you might like this one taken 2016 season. @Blessed Weatherthis is the highest point in the resort with a nice 6k sweeping run, mainly blue/red down from the Adlerhorst Restaurant to the location of your chalet during your stay . Great views up there with a 360 panoramic  view of the Austrian Alps. The far peak in the middle of the picture is Gross Glockner. Hope the weather is good as this, I know Seaside60 hit a warm spell at the end of the season when he made the visit, but generally the resort holds the snow well and late into the season with it being high.

Morning, this the very latest. Not the best picture, rain all weekend with local flooding in the valley. Picture taken yesterday of the church on the Gamskogel ( @seaside 60, you will know  where that is. Yes, this morning we have snow cover at 2000m. Currently 2c in the village, this time last week was 20c.

Just got back from two weeks in the Wildschönau which was 13 days of very hot weather and the last day friday the 24th a cloudy rain cold day (we crossed the boarder and went up the Wendelstein on the Cog railway.

But in the good weather days, we had some fantastic days out in Austria/Germany, Krimml Waterfalls (amazing), Berchtesgaden and a trip on the Konigsee electric boats (reminded me of Milford Sound in New Zealand), went to Achensee which was another stunning place. Went to watch FC Wacker Insbruck play a game, lovely stadium while the wife and Daughter visited the crystal world! And on the quet days enjoyed the Wildshonau and all the amazing walks that there is there including taking part in the Schatzberg March! (not ideal 6.30 am start for a holiday!).

Had a great time being our 4 summer holiday to Austria in 4 years (3 in the Wildschonau, and one near the Swizz boarder).

Next year looking at moving a little further to the east, east of Salzburg or somewhere between Insbruck and the Swizz Border... lots of time to plan yet...

Also saw the news of the floods at Sallbach... that's where my folks go every summer... they were shocked to see how bad the flash floods were there last Thursday night!

Great country, great people.... cannot recommend enough!

Hi, what a great post. Sounds if you had a great time and got around a bit. My wife is from the Wildschonau ( Inner Alpbach )  and still has a family home there. When she finishes work we,will more than likely end up there. I know they have put a new lift up the Schatzberg recently. The weather in the mountains can be exciting with summer storms thrown in. Most of the time the sun shines but like last weekend we ended up with lots of rain and even snowfall on higher parts. East or West for next year, will be good in which ever direction you go. Plenty more to see.

Another lovely sunny morning in Katschberg. Looking to the Gamskogel Restaurant beyond the Chapel. The mountains in the background are in the direction of Obertauern ski resort.
