Looks like the snow prospects will start at around 4pm for our area

Posted Image

It looks best for south Yorkshire though

Posted Image

The snow then moves East

Posted Image

With some showers in North Yorkshire later on

Posted Image

Then in the early hours of Friday, snow looks likely for West Yorkshire, with Huddersfield, Bradford and Leeds in the firing line.

Sheffield looks the place to be for a few hours of snowfall.

Think that went a bit t@ts up

Well the wet snow never really materialised unless with any notable  altitude though perhaps i was being optimistic for us generally (knew i was too far East for anything, though brief bit of sleet last night) woke to find treacherous roads though with a very bizarre patchy frost, local council were caught with their pants down methinks and been a chilly feeling 6 degrees at most here, that's one thing that can frustrate in the model thread is peoples perception of mild or rather not making it clear if they are referring to meteorological terms temp wise or real world mild as whilst its no cold spell its chilly i would call mild above 10 degrees, might i add lets hope things angle towards HLB chances with the PJF to go holiday south as progged in the models, maybe a nice 91 style setup would be good

Band of heavy rain and possible squall line incoming this evening...should be some strong gusts associated with this as well if it doesn't decay too much.

Met Office have me down for a max gust speed of 43mph tomorrow. Are we too far north and inland to have the 50-60 mph gusts that are expected?

EDIT - Looking at other sites, Netweather has a peak period of 33-58mph while WeatherOutlook has a max gust of 69mph tomorrow afternoon. Met office being cautious?

GFS has all under the 60mph plus tomorrow afternoon. So it should get very windy.

So why are the MO predictions much lower? And why haven't we been put under any sort of warning (not even yellow)? 60mph winds can do anlot damage, let alone in an area that is saturated and weakened from recent storms.

Worst storm for a good while currently - gusting 70-75 mph at present. Just popped out to check round the house, one slate on the ground thus far, and the noise of the wind is quite deafening, it really does sound like a jet plane. Worst kind of weather as far as I'm concerned.

Latest high gust 73.9 mph, still two slates thus far. I'm just waiting and hoping for the forecasted easing off as we head into the afternoon, but it sure ain't started to ease yet !

Seems to be easing a bit here now, gusts down to around 50 mph. If it calms down a bit more before it gets too dark I think I'll climb up and try and put the couple of slates which have come off back again.

Just a blustery day here. Max gust 47mph. Average still rising though if it keeps going up it'll match the gusts. Steady 42 to 44mph lol

Guess you exposed to the south then.

Western parts of the region could wake up to a white Christmas.

Meto model showing a trough pushing south west falling as snow for inland areas, it fragments as it moves south but the snowfall accumulation maps show some snow for central areas. I'd stress this is for high ground only, maybe wet sleet or snow to lower levels.

There's still the uncertainty of the southern extent of tomorrows strongest winds. Looks like the more northern parts of our region could have a lively day once again...

Absolutely Pit, top of a south facing hill slope, nothing between us and the next high ground which is Holme Moss 15 miles to our south. Anyway, chalk and cheese yesterday and today, max gust today of 50.1 mph, so just a normal breezy day up here. Now my attention switches to Friday, and hope against hope it turns out more like today than yesterday.

Oh and I suppose it's worth mentioning we had a sleet to snow shower earlier.

Latest model outputs shows that parts of our region could be subject to some nasty conditions on Friday. As always however, still time for more adjustments north, which could make a large difference.

Yeah currently looking like a very nasty storm, ground is also very saturated and river levels high with more rain on the way could get worse.

Latest GFS shows tight isobars across our region, worst around 9am across the west before the strongest winds transfer to the east coast by around lunchtime, but it will be a very gusty day throughout. Winds could reach 70mph, possibly higher along the coast and over high ground.

I think from looking at the recent model output things are finally to turn more wintry as we head through january. Second half of the month looks like like turning colder with showery periods of rain, sleet, hill snow and blustery winds. Still nothing truly significant like a scandi/greenland high on the horizon though.

Looks like we're in the firing line tomorrow after escapes earlier this week. Could be very interesting once winds swing to the south west.
