Always good to read reports of first snowfalls of the season. Evaporative cooling is the key factor for snow reports in S and W Yorkshire. You've hit lucky.

If you get clearer skies after the snow and the wind drops then it won't melt, temps should drop in that set up.

I feel all festive now :)

I think the glass of 18 year old single malt Talisker Storm whiskey has a lot to do with it mind!

strange that warmer air is coming from the north east? weve just spent the last 2 weeks on the model thread looking for our first northerly blast lol.

This is why I am always hopeful and never take any forecast as a  gospel and prefer to wait until the actual day to see what will happen. At least most of us have been treated to something nice.

Lots of heavy rain and sleet in Sandhutton, got down to 2.5C at 7:47pm when it turned more to sleety snow, but currently 6.2 and rising, so I think those of you who have seen snow will probably see it washed away over the coming hours as the warmer air comes in from the NE.

I must say, though, that snow has been more widespread across the region than I expected tonight.

So has this warmer air come round the top of the high pressure?

YOud expect a NE wind in late November to give us the snow weve just had, not sure why its getting warmer overnight?

The air aloft wasn't really that cold in the first place, most of tonight's snow was from evaporative cooling as this region is right in the centre of the low pressure system. Temperatures are increasing now as we drag in a north-easterly as SSTs are still rather mild at this point.

Just cold rain here tonight despite the temperature falling to 2.5C. As the wind has changed to the north-east the temperature has now risen to 5.1C.

Didn't last long did it. Brief covering of snow and then along came the rain and washed it away. Can't see any on the moors this morning.

Noticed this yesterday, I was working between York and Scarborough, Scarborough was cloudy for most of the day whereas Malton and York had beautiful sunshine. Many people were asking if it was a weather/storm front but I had to explain it was merely just a bank of cloud rolling in off the North Sea. Was quiet impressive and the cloud was in a straight line and the sun being low in the sky gave it an impressive look!
