Forgettable years, weatherwise.

I'd say 2016 or 2017, maybe 2017, was most boring for me. A very boring dry and mild Winter. A very mild Spring with an exceptionally dry but dull April (dullest on record for parts of Ireland). A crap Summer that was about as forgettable as it gets outside of June 17th-21st. A very forgettable and crap Autumn with little interest bar Ophelia.

Summer 2017 was dreadful overall here - a very wet July and August with temperatures struggling to get above 25C throughout. August ended in a washout with temperatures no higher than 15C, it was very poor. June was alright, much drier but lacked any sun. May 2017 was decent and warmish I recall. The Spring was very warm that year too.

I was in Berlin, August 2016 and it was absolutely sweltering, it was above 30C for 5 whole days in the last week, although it became very cool when the Sun went down. I think the maxima may have even hit 39C/40C. Meanwhile in the UK it was boring, dull and cooler.

Yes August 2016 was the best month of that summer here. Only the 01st and 20th were wet. Lots of pleasant warm and sometimes hot weather. Even on a business trip up to Aberdeen on the closing days it was warm and sunny up there. Just a sham that 10th June until 16th July was largely naff.

First half of 2019 has been pretty forgettable. Only stand out was that February spell.

And the February wasn't a patch on the 2018 end one and beginning of March

Hardly anything worth remembering here so far this year. In fact I’m not sure there is anything at all.

I'd hardly call this year totally forgettable.  There was that notable warm spell in Februaury, and those severe gales in March.

OK, this summer has been disappointing for heat lovers but there's still time for a few heatwaves yet.

Years I don't remember anything weather wise, or were boring:

1993, 1996, 1998, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2017, and 2019 so far.

Don't remember any notable good summer weather, storms or anything interesting in these years. In 2005 everybody went on about a big thunderstorm outbreak on 31st August, which is my birthday, but even though I lived in the middle of the storm zone I don't remember anything happening at all, must of missed me.

So far this year, things that stick out for me are:

- snow at the start of Feb

- the mild/warm sunny spell in the second half of Feb

- the sunny and warm Easter

- the terrible start to June, especially the 11th and 12th

Yes, there have been a few thunderstorms but that’s all par for the course. No humdingers like 2017 or 2014.

The most uninteresting years I can remember are 2002 (possibly the most boring of all), 1993 and 2017. In the extended period, within my memory but when I was paying less attention to the weather, I'd add 1977 and 1980.

Apart the early October record breaking hot snap, 2011 was utterly forgettable. The summer was nothing to write home about and the winter months of Jan, Feb and December were bland and snowless here, sandwiched between the epic December 2010 and a good early Feb 2012 which also saw heavy snowfall down here.

1980 had some thunderstorms, but the summer overall was poor.

I can’t remember much about 2005. I do vaguely recall some cold snowy weather in February or early March, but my memory could be playing tricks.

The summer wasn’t a memorable one, apart from a handful of sunny warm days in August.

this what i found for June 2005.... Notably CHILLY nights during the first 10 days of the month, with some stations breaking records during the period for low NIGHT MINIMA. Overall though, it was a WARM month, at least for England & Wales - for some the second warmest June since 1976. Across some parts of the lower Thames Valley (including London), the TEMPERATURE anomaly was around +2degC on the 1971-2000 LTA.

No, you're correct.  The final third of February and early March 2005 did produce some cold snowy weather with some fantastic synoptics.  However, unfortunately due to the Continent being very mild that winter, the cold was moderate and snowfalls, although frequent were generally marginal and struggled to settle away from the east coast and high ground.  Had the Continent been colder, that could have been a memorable winter event!

I’m terribly, terribly sorry if this is the incorrect thread, but I’ve found the most painful sequence of Meteociel charts for cold-lovers Fathomable; Warning: this is rather soul crushing! If you think this is bad, the 850 hpa charts are tear-inducing!

How that low didn’t undercut on the 10th and produce a severe snowstorm  is unreal. This forum would have exploded if that had happened recently

Yes this year will have been one of the more forgettable years. Conversely, perhaps memorable for the wrong reasons. What does stand out however here is:

31st Jan / 01st Feb - heavy snowfall. The snowfall itself wasn't unusual, but rather the fact only the S & SW were the sweet spot.

14th-28th Feb - early spring and gorgeous weather

Easter - beautifully sunny and warm throughout

First 2/3 of June - unusually cold, dull and wet

22nd September onwards - largely atrocious

Nearly halfway through the year.

Storm Ciara has been a standout and the squall line during that extraordinarily wet February

The dry sunny April/May period.

Best thundery spell (so far) for probably at least 20 years.

Best summer for thunder for some years but the summer itself has been poor especially July.

Indeed, the best summer for thunder since 2014 here.

I'd say this year is turning into a memorable one so far.  The stormy February, the record breaking march to may sunny period, the thundery summer (bar July) and the number of 35c+ days.  January is the only month with nothing to note thus far.

2017 very boring (bar the June heatwave, July 18/19 storms).  December had a bit of variety but no other month did I feel.

2011 very boring (the april and September/October hot spells were interesting as was the spanish plume on 4 November) nothing else to note.

2010 outside of January and December actually had nothing memorable IMO.  Least thundery year I can recall personally.

2008 seems to be mentioned a bit but I found there to be some variety and interest especially February, May, October (snow) and December.  Agree, not as interesting as some years though.

2002 was indeed very monotonous though for weather fans.
