Back to the here and now for the UK models seem to be firming up on a cold snap next week

 

What that will bring for our region is yet to be decided,but overnight frost will probably become more frequent

with showers turning more wintry over the hills

Wintry showers to lower levels? A watered down NW'erly isn't going to provide wintry showers away from Pennine tops in mid-November, especially with uppers of just -4C and maximum temperatures of 6-7C..

 

Thereafter, some very mild temperatures before the GFS plays with the idea of a northerly in 7-8 days. Probably won't come off, but even if it does that's a dry direction for us..

Very nice 12z ECM this evening the low Heights over Italy will stop the High sinking

 

Some interesting model watching over the next 48hrs

 

Tuesday looks like wintry showers could get down to lower levels with the higher hills

Good morning everyone. I just woke up to a frightening gust of wind, it was about ten to seven in the morning it happened. It was a pretty freaky weather this morning. I must assumed it was a odd 60mph gust of wind. It only last 10 seconds though.

 

I had a similar windy event about 10 years ago. I was in Wales sleeping in a tent, then all of a sudden a strong gust of wind, probably about 60mph which blew my tent. It was very scary. Funny enough the wind event last for 10 seconds too.

 

Is that a squall I witness?

UK Outlook for Tuesday 19 Nov 2013 to Thursday 28 Nov 2013:

Frequent showers in the north will spread south through Tuesday, and continue into the middle of week one. These showers will be a wintry combination of rain, sleet and snow, giving locally significant snow accumulations over higher ground, and perhaps locally to lower levels in the north. There is a risk these showers could merge into longer spells of rain, sleet or snow, especially in the west, and later the south. Cold, with more widespread overnight frosts likely, although becoming less cold later. The best of any drier, more settled weather in central and eastern areas. Showers gradually dying out during Thursday of week one. Thereafter generally becoming drier especially across the north and west, with variable cloud and scattered showers elsewhere. Windy at first, gradually becoming lighter.
