Well would you believe it NAE brings wintry PPN to parts of North West England and N Wales tomorrow evening

the 22oC 7 days ago seems a lifetime ago

Thankfully things look like heading in the right direction come months end

The met office growing ever confident of the southern Pennines seeing some snow into tomorrow as reflected on the BBC forecast charts, only a very small risk but a risk nonetheless. snow-forecast going for a variable risk at 7am tomorrow morning.

yep Tuesday night, I think the snow-forecast is a little ahead of schedule compared to the GFS which takes the front across the UK throughout the day into late Tues, should have kept a closer eye on the times, but oddly enough the snow accumulation forecast (despite being experimental) is showing 6cm for the peaks overnight Tues into Weds Posted Image .

Just been out for a run and got caught in one hefty hail shower, even had a rumble of thunder. Thankfully hawthorn is in full leaf now, provided some reasonable shelter!

Snow/hail line on the mountains has drifted between 700 and 900m today, still plenty of snow patches around too.

Wow wee just had a thunderstorm with hail.

The storm approaching. Unfortunately hail and rain hitting the window makes it blurry at times.

No thunderstorms here, just sunny, partly cloudy and bone dry. Only one or two showers passed through here today.

For the Thunderstorm to form it needs long clear skies with the sun at the peak producing warmth and the clouds will bubble up like an hot air balloon. It needs a low pressure system to work. It is called Convection.

Were under an cold air mass right now.

Looks like we got yours then.Lousy morning with frequent showers of rain, hail and sleet and a few rumbles of thunder thrown in for good measure. The afternoon has been better, especially later on but even in the sun it has still felt damn cold and certainly not like mid May.

Interesting to watch the development and track of todays low.  Seems to be taking a similar path to the lp's that bought snow to many south of here during the winter.  Been dry here today after some initial hefty hail showers this morning - fairly pleasant day really.

Yes it's almost identical to those times where we sat right on the northern extent, got sod all and then watched it perk up and plaster those on the other side of the Pennines.Difference this time though is that they can keep it, snow and all and the same goes for any other southerly tracking lows until November at the earliest.I bet there weren't many on the southern threads today hoping for the corrections they bullishly demanded all winter.

Heavy and at times torrential rain in the night, now with squally showers and feeling cold. 7c

Image was taken 7:57am this morning. Never seen a day in mid-May quite like this! Don't think much improvement on cards for later today either!

11:10am brightening a little and rain has eased-fingers crossed!

Awful! I hope this is not the sign of things to come.

Surely you want it to be historical ....

Lovely autumn day, heavy rain with a temperature of 6.4C. I did enjoy summer last Tuesday but thoughts are now turning to winter, we've already had the first snowfall of the season on the mountains.

Historical but for the right reasons.

You are having a laff! Anyway it's not the first snowfall of the season as the new season doesn't begin until July. Any snowfalls this month or next is the current season of 2012-13.

Just joking! It really did feel like November out there this morning. It's quite disappointing to think that last Tuesday is the only warm day I've had this year. Usually we would have had at least a week of decent weather by now. Hopefully it'll arrive in summer.

Pesky little drizzle-streamer setting itself up for the rest of the afternoon. Narrow band but can be tracked virtually all along the M62 more or less. Thankfully we escaped the very heavy rain further north this morning, but any thoughts of it drying up look to be squandered with this drizzle-streamer.  Better day forecast for tomorrow though!

The weather forecasters are promised to be sunny here yesterday but instead it is cloudy. Yet another epic fail for the weather forecasters.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
