UK Outlook for Friday 23 Dec 2016 to Friday 6 Jan 2017:

Whilst there is a good deal of uncertainty for this period, it is most likely that more settled conditions may dominate associated with high pressure affecting the UK. If the pressure does build, then we can expect drier than average conditions for most areas with lighter winds. Temperatures are also then likely to be below average with an increased risk of frost and fog, especially where skies remain clear overnight. There will probably also be some milder, unsettled interludes though, and as we head into the New Year this may become more of a feature in our weather, with the greatest likelihood of changeable conditions in the northwest, giving rain here at times.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 14 Dec 2016 to Friday 23 Dec 2016:

As we move through next week we are mostly likely to see a north-west to south-east split developing. During this time periods of wet and windy weather are expected to approach the UK from the west, however their eastward progression at this stage is fairly uncertain. In this type of scenario the most unsettled conditions are likely across the north and west, with drier and brighter weather for southern and eastern areas. It'll be windy at times, with the possibility of gales in the west and northwest, but it will be much less windy further south and east. It'll generally be mild with temperatures above average, however, in between weather systems temperatures will return closer to normal.

UK Outlook for Saturday 24 Dec 2016 to Saturday 7 Jan 2017:

There is a good deal of uncertainty for this period as the UK remains in a battleground between higher pressure across the near continent and lower pressure in the Atlantic. The exact orientation of these will dictate conditions across the country. Currently western parts are most likely to see outbreaks of rain at times, along with relatively mild conditions, whilst eastern areas will see drier and perhaps colder conditions. There will probably also be some milder, unsettled interludes though, especially into early January, with the greatest likelihood of changeable conditions in the northwest, giving rain here at times.

Seems straight forward. Preferred outcome is mild and wet for the west and dry and close to average, possibly below, for the east.

UK Outlook for Thursday 15 Dec 2016 to Saturday 24 Dec 2016:

Towards the end of next week, it looks like a west-east split will develop. Frontal systems are likely to move into the west bringing outbreaks of rain, easing as they move eastwards. Pressure then looks more likely to build over the UK during next weekend, bringing drier and, at times, brighter weather for southern parts, although the north may hold onto cloud and outbreaks of rain. Temperatures are likely to be near normal, with frost patches forming where the cloud breaks. There is a large degree of uncertainty as we head towards the Christmas period, however, high pressure looks more likely to dominate leading to drier weather. Nonetheless, there are suggestions that frontal systems will move in from the west bringing spells of rain and milder interludes.

UK Outlook for Friday 16 Dec 2016 to Sunday 25 Dec 2016:

Towards the end of next week frontal systems are likely to move into the west, bringing outbreaks of rain that'll be heavy at times with strong winds. The wind and rain will ease as they move slowly eastwards though and it'll be mild. Pressure then looks likely to build over the UK during next weekend, bringing drier and, at times, brighter weather for southern parts, although the north may hold onto cloud and outbreaks of rain. Temperatures are likely to be near normal, with overnight frost patches forming where the cloud breaks. There is a large degree of uncertainty as we head towards the Christmas period, however, high pressure currently looks more likely to dominate leading to drier weather, but it will still be rather cloudy with some fog patches.

UK Outlook for Saturday 17 Dec 2016 to Monday 26 Dec 2016:

A mainly dry weekend for most of the UK as pressure builds across the south. There is likely to be some sunny spells for many on Saturday, especially in the north and west, but cloud probably increasing from the west on Sunday. Some rain developing in the far north-west on Saturday, perhaps persistent over high ground. Probably becoming windy in the north on Sunday with local gales possible. Temperatures generally near normal, with some frosts possible.

UK Outlook for Sunday 18 Dec 2016 to Tuesday 27 Dec 2016:

Mainly dry through Sunday and Monday with high pressure centred over southern UK. Rather cloudy, but some sunshine is possible, particularly across central parts. Rain developing for western Northern Ireland and Scotland, perhaps persistent over high ground. Windy in the north on Sunday with local gales possible. Temperatures generally near normal, with overnight frosts where the cloud breaks. There is a large degree of uncertainty as we head towards the Christmas period, however, high pressure currently looks more likely to dominate leading to drier weather, particularly in the south-east, but still rather cloudy with some fog patches at times. More unsettled conditions are most probable in the north-west, where it'll be windy at times. Temperatures generally near normal, with some frosts possible, but perhaps mild at times in the north-west.

That is a grim forecast  not totally unexpected.  quite a safe bet as 9 out of 10 British winters fall into this category

If that forecast is anywhere accurate we will have gone half way through Winter without any snow.

Looking like another poor one.

Looks like those easterlies we had back in October came too early

UK Outlook for Monday 19 Dec 2016 to Wednesday 28 Dec 2016:

Most places will stay dry on Monday and Tuesday. It will be rather cloudy, but some sunshine is possible, particularly across central parts. Temperatures will be around normal, with overnight frosts where the cloud breaks. Rain will develop in western Northern Ireland and Scotland, perhaps persistent over hills. This is likely to spread further south in the second half of next week, accompanied by some stronger winds. There is a large degree of uncertainty as we head towards Christmas itself, however, high pressure looks more likely to persist in the south-east leading to drier, but sometimes cloudy weather. Unsettled conditions are most probable in the north-west, where it'll be windy at times. Temperatures will be around normal, with some frosts possible, but perhaps mild at times in the north-west.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 20 Dec 2016 to Thursday 29 Dec 2016:

Largely dry on Tuesday, though rather cloudy for most. Temperatures will be around normal, with overnight frost and fog where the cloud breaks. Rain in the northwest will spread further south on Wednesday. This will herald a change to more unsettled conditions through the rest of next week, with showers and outbreaks of rain, the heaviest likely in the northwest, accompanied by strong winds at times. Drier further south, though there is a large degree of uncertainty as head towards Christmas itself. High pressure looks more likely to persist in the southeast allowing drier, but sometimes cloudy weather. Unsettled conditions are most probable in the northwest, where it'll be windy at times. Temperatures will be around normal, with some frosts possible, but perhaps mild at times in the northwest.

UK Outlook for Friday 30 Dec 2016 to Friday 13 Jan 2017:

There is a good deal of uncertainty for this period as the UK remains in a battleground between higher pressure across the near continent and lower pressure over the Atlantic. Currently it is most likely to be a settled start to the period in the east and south-east with high pressure persisting. Northern and western parts are however more likely to see outbreaks of rain at times, along with relatively mild conditions, whilst south-eastern and eastern areas will see drier and perhaps colder conditions. Even here milder and wetter spells are possible at times though, as unsettled conditions in the west move across the country. By the second week of January, higher pressure is slightly more likely in the west, bringing a risk of some colder interludes.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 21 Dec 2016 to Friday 30 Dec 2016:

Rain in the north-west will spread further south across the country on Wednesday. This heralds a change to unsettled conditions through the rest of next week and into the Christmas period, with showers or longer spells of rain, accompanied by gales at times, particularly in the north-west, with generally drier, more settled conditions in the south-east. However, periods of gales and rain remain a possibility in the south throughout this period. Quieter, more settled weather then looks likely to become more prevalent again towards the end of the month as high pressure begins to build towards the east of the country. Temperatures will vary around the seasonal average, with a mixture of milder and colder interludes at times.

UK Outlook for Friday 30 Dec 2016 to Friday 13 Jan 2017:

There is a good deal of uncertainty for this period. However signals point towards more predominantly settled weather beginning to dominate again around New Year, particularly in the south and east of the country as high pressure builds in this area, with perhaps windier and wetter conditions in the far north-west. There is little confidence in details thereafter, although a continuation of generally settled conditions looks most likely into mid January. Temperatures will mostly be around average for the time of year, although there are signs of occasional colder spells at times.

UK Outlook for Thursday 22 Dec 2016 to Saturday 31 Dec 2016:

A band of rain will clear the south-east of the UK during Thursday, thereafter the whole country will be left under the influence of windier and more unsettled weather through Christmas weekend and into next week. Gales, as well as showers, or longer spells of rain, occasionally heavy, are expected, particularly in the north-west, and generally drier, more settled conditions in the south-east. Showers in the north are likely to turn wintry at times. Periods of gales and rain, while less likely, also remain a possibility in the south. Quieter, more settled weather then may become more prevalent again towards the end of the month as high pressure builds. Temperatures will vary around the seasonal average, with a mixture of milder and colder interludes, and occasional night frosts.

UK Outlook for Friday 23 Dec 2016 to Sunday 1 Jan 2017:

Friday looks to start with a local frost and some patchy fog in the south, but it will readily turn unsettled from the west through the day. This will herald a changeable and at times very unsettled spell of weather as we move through the Christmas period and towards New Year. A succession of deep Atlantic depressions will bring bands of heavy rain east across all parts, although sheltered eastern and south-eastern areas should see some reasonable drier interludes too. Winds will often be strong, with periods of gales, and the potential for some stormy conditions at times in the northwest. We will see some incursions of milder weather in association with these depressions, but also colder interludes, with the risk some snow, especially across high ground in the north.

UK Outlook for Monday 2 Jan 2017 to Monday 16 Jan 2017:

There is a good deal of uncertainty for this period. However signals point towards high pressure building back into towards the UK, meaning some longer drier and quieter spells for many, and thus a greater likelihood of local frost and patchy fog by night. There is also the potential, although with very little confidence attached to it, that pressure may also build to the west of the UK across the Atlantic, and this would bring a high chance of seeing a colder interlude develop.
