Jesus, not a whiff of warmth or sunshine there, right through to 6th of April now.

Patiently waiting for warmth and thunderstorms.

Indeed and up to 23rd April = cold! Posted Image

Did you read the longer term forecast properly?

Southern parts of the UK are likely to be unsettled with rainfall amounts possibly above average, especially at first. Temperatures here close to or just below average, though probably not as cold as conditions currently are.

Maybe... but that is specific to the 9th April onwards...

UK Outlook for Sunday 31 Mar 2013 to Tuesday 9 Apr 2013:

Many areas starting dry and cold with variable cloud and some sunny spells, though with a few light snow showers, mainly in the northeast. The far southwest will probably be cloudier with some rain or drizzle, and this may then start to edge northeastwards into other southwestern areas, perhaps turning to sleet or snow for a time. Remaining cold, with widespread overnight frost and icy patches. Into the start of April, it looks like the unsettled conditions in the southwest may tend to clear, to leave most areas dry, aside form a few light snow flurries, and remaining cold. Towards the end of the period, there are signs that some more unsettled and less cold weather may start to push in from the west, but making slow progress eastwards.

UK Outlook for Monday 1 Apr 2013 to Wednesday 10 Apr 2013:

The first week of April is likely to be largely dry for most of the United Kingdom, with only isolated wintry showers affecting some northern and eastern areas. There is also a chance of rain and perhaps some hill snow in the far southwest. Cloud cover will vary across the country, with western areas most likely to see any sunshine. Temperatures will remain cold with widespread overnight frosts and icy patches. There are indications of a change to more unsettled weather towards the middle of the month, although this change is likely to be gradual and some areas will retain the cold and dry weather. Temperatures are likely to become less cold, although they will probably still be below average for the time of year.

UK Outlook for Thursday 11 Apr 2013 to Thursday 25 Apr 2013:

Much of the UK is likely to start cold, with a fair amount of dry weather, although further snowfall is possible, mainly in the form of showers. Overnight frosts remain likely. More unsettled weather may already be affecting some areas at the start of the periods, and indications are that this will become more widespread towards the end of the month. As a result, rainfall amounts should return to near average for the time of year, with temperatures also become less cold generally.

UK Outlook for Wednesday 3 Apr 2013 to Friday 12 Apr 2013:

Remaining cold, with variable and at times large amounts of cloud, and the best of any sunshine across more western and northwestern parts of the UK. The cloud will be thick enough to produce some occasional showers wintry at times, initially focussed across, eastern, central and southern Britain, as well as the far north of Scotland. With winds likely to shift round to a more northerly direction by the following weekend, northeastern areas as well as some Irish Sea coasts may become more prone to seeing these wintry showers. Widespread and in places hard overnight frosts remain a risk, especially where lying snow remains. Towards the end of this period, there are signs that this prolonged cold period may start to wane, as winds become more westerly in nature.

UK Outlook for Saturday 13 Apr 2013 to Saturday 27 Apr 2013:

There remain signs of a transition from the current colder than average conditions to more typical conditions for the time of year taking place during mid-April. This would leave the rest of the month with nearer average temperatures, albeit still with a risk of overnight frost. Meanwhile, in the absence of any strong signals for trends in precipitation later this month, the most probable scenario is for rainfall to be nearer average. Given that the first half of April is expected to be drier than average, this does imply that at least some parts of the UK are likely to be more unsettled during the second half of April.

UK Outlook for Thursday 4 Apr 2013 to Saturday 13 Apr 2013:

Remaining generally cold, with variable, and at times large, amounts of cloud through the rest of next week onwards into the following week. Best of any sunshine initially expected over western and northwestern UK and then probably over southern areas the week after next. Meanwhile, cloud will be thick enough to produce occasional showers, some wintry, later next week onwards into the early part of the following week. Initially eastern, central and southern Britain are most at risk of showers, but with winds likely to turn northerly next weekend northern, eastern and central UK and Irish Sea coastal areas become most prone to showers. Finally, towards the end of this period, signs are emerging that this prolonged cold period may start to wane, as winds become more westerly in nature.

Their change in further outlook begun on 26th continues so it would seem they are reasonably confident of this cold coming to an end in the time scale they indicate. A welcome relief to all those with their bank balances dependent on weather conditions being nearer normal?

So if this is correct the 500mb anomaly charts SHOULD start to show a marked change in pattern within the next 5-7 days??

UK Outlook for Saturday 6 Apr 2013 to Monday 15 Apr 2013:

Temperatures are likely to remain below average in most places, with variable amounts of cloud. Best of any sunshine expected over southern and western UK. Meanwhile, thicker cloud with outbreaks of rain, sleet and hill snow over Scotland will move south over the weekend to bring occasional wintry showers in northern and eastern areas. Next week, wintry showers will largely become confined to North Sea coastal areas, while less cold but unsettled conditions are expected to arrive in the west, with dry conditions in between. The unsettled weather then looks likely to move eastwards across the UK, with a risk of some snow initially in some northern, central and eastern parts, but perhaps heavy rain in the west. Thereafter, temperatures should recover to average but with rain at times.

UK Outlook for Sunday 7 Apr 2013 to Tuesday 16 Apr 2013:

Largely fine and dry at first. Temperatures still below average, but starting to turn less cold than of late and by mid April temperatures should recover to near average for the time of year. Cloudier and windier conditions with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, then spreading eastwards across the UK, perhaps not reaching the far south east until Monday. Any sleet or snow at low levels will quickly turn to rain. Clearer conditions with showers then following from the west to give a mix of rain and brighter spells. Some heavy rain is likely, especially over west and southwestern regions. The showers will be wintry at times over higher ground, especially in the north. It will be often windy, risk of gales in northern and western extremes.

Fine and dry at first in the east. Cloudier and windier conditions with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, will spread eastwards across the UK. Some hill snow and a risk of sleet over Scotland and northern England. Temperatures still below average, but turning less cold as brighter conditions with showers then follow from the west through Tuesday and Wednesday next week. After this it will be generally rather unsettled for a while with outbreaks of rain and brighter intervals. Heavy rain at times, especially over west or northwestern regions, with any showers wintry at times over higher ground in the north. Often windy, risk of gales in northern and western extremes. In southern and eastern areas probably becoming warmer and more settled in the following week.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 9 Apr 2013 to Thursday 18 Apr 2013:

Dry at first for many, but a few wintry showers in the northeast, and thicker cloud in parts of south with outbreaks of rain, turning heavy at times. This rain will gradually spread northeastwards, with some hill snow on the leading edge, but perhaps not reaching parts of northern Britain. Frost becoming limited to northwestern shelter, but still cold by day. Towards the end of next week, generally rather unsettled with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, especially over west and southwestern areas, but some brighter, showery intervals. Any showers could be wintry at times over higher ground in the north. Often windy, with the risk of gales in northern and western extremities. Southern and eastern areas may become warmer and more settled into the following week.

UK Outlook for Saturday 20 Apr 2013 to Saturday 4 May 2013:

Current indications suggest conditions during the latter part of April and early May being fairly typical for the time of year. This would leave temperatures often nearer average, though given colder than average seas, coastal areas may be quite chilly whenever sea breezes occur. Meanwhile, during any settled spells the risk of overnight ground frost is, perhaps, slightly greater than average. Unsettled, changeable conditions probably still affecting some northern and western parts early in this forecast period. Otherwise, in the absence of any strong signals for trends in precipitation for late April into early May nearer average rainfall amounts are considered most likely.
