UK Outlook for Friday 15 Feb 2013 to Sunday 24 Feb 2013:

Often cloudy on Friday, but with occasional bright spells and a few showers. Turning more unsettled later on Friday and into Saturday, with cloud and rain spreading from the northwest, though possibly not reaching the far southeast until late on Saturday. Temperatures near normal for much of the UK. Remaining unsettled through the rest of next weekend, but then turning drier and brighter form the north and east into the following week. The rest of the period looks reasonably settled for many, with any unsettled weather most likely towards the northwest of the UK, or for North Sea coastal areas. Temperatures starting close to average next weekend, but becoming generally colder into the following week, with frosty nights returning.

A definate hint of maybe a northerly wind towards the end of that period "The rest of the period looks reasonably settled for many, with any unsettled weather most likely towards the northwest of the UK, or for North Sea coastal areas. Becoming generally colder into the following week, with frosty nights returning."

UK Outlook for Saturday 16 Feb 2013 to Monday 25 Feb 2013:

Often cloudy during the first weekend, with rain or drizzle spreading from the west after a mainly dry start, but possibly not reaching some eastern areas of the UK. Thereafter, something of a northwest-southeast split will develop across the country, although there is currently some uncertainty regarding the position of the dividing line. Northern and western parts will see the more changeable conditions, with spells of rain or drizzle, occasionally heavy, but snow largely confined to northern hills. Breezy at times, especially in the northwest, with temperatures near normal for February. Further south and east, drier weather will tend to prevail with lighter winds on the whole, Temperatures here close to or a little below normal by day, with a continuing risk of overnight frost and perhaps fog patches.

UK Outlook for Sunday 17 Feb 2013 to Tuesday 26 Feb 2013:

Predominantly dry weather is likely to prevail over the UK through much of this period, although sunshine amounts will vary from day to day. As we move towards the middle of the first week, northern and northwestern parts of the UK may become somewhat more unsettled with rain or sleet at times, although any snow is likely to be confined to the hills at first. East and southeast Britain may also encounter a few wintry showers on occasion. In terms of temperatures, most places will be close to normal at first, with no more than patchy frost by night, but a downward trend is likely later in February, with frost becoming more widespread and daytimes feeling rather cold.

UK Outlook for Tuesday 19 Feb 2013 to Thursday 28 Feb 2013:

Predominantly dry weather is likely to prevail over the UK through to the end of the month. Cloud cover will vary from day to day, but most areas should see at least some sunny periods. Western and southwestern parts have the greatest chance of seeing any rain as weather systems try to push in from the west at times. There may also be some wintry showers in eastern counties too. It now seems increasingly likely that there will be little change in this pattern through to the end of the month. Temperatures in most places will be close to normal at first, with no more than patchy frost by night, but a downward trend is likely later in February, with frost becoming more widespread and daytimes feeling rather cold.

UK Outlook for Saturday 2 Mar 2013 to Saturday 16 Mar 2013:

Many areas are likely to be colder than average through much of this period, perhaps more especially across the eastern side of the UK. Nights are then often also likely to be frosty. Also some signs of conditions turning a little more unsettled during the early part of this forecast period, perhaps with a slightly greater than average chance of snow. Generally, however, no strong signals regarding precipitation and taking the period as a whole some areas of the UK will probably end up a little drier than usual for the time of year. Finally, towards the middle of March temperatures may recover close to the seasonal norm.

UK Outlook for Thursday 21 Feb 2013 to Saturday 2 Mar 2013:

Conditions during the second half of next week and at the weekend are expected to be cold, mostly dry but rather cloudy and breezy, with the best of any brighter weather across the west and northwest of the UK. The cloud in the east may be thick enough at times to produce some wintry showers, with some thicker cloud also spreading into the southwest at times giving some outbreaks of rain and hill snow. This may then possibly spread east to affect some other parts of the south during the weekend. Looking ahead to the last week of February, conditions likely to be largely dry but on the cold side at first but there is a low risk of some unsettled weather reaching the southwest and perhaps slowly spreading northwards.

Doesn't seem like they are buying the GFS 06Z ensembles for early March.

Yeah hopefully precipitation will be below average giving everywhere time to dry out, not very nice going on country walks when everywhere is so boggy

Yes gavin you are right, i just want some prolonged dry weather as like you say unsettled periods are no good for country walking, the reason i favour cold and dry is because the countryside is still very very muddy and until the sun really increases in strength that is the best way to help me on my country walks with firm underfoot conditions after harsh night frost, GFS 06Z ensembles were probably too late for this update, GFS 00Z ensembles were similar for early March though and i didnt see the ensembles for yesterday so maybe they showed mild wet sw'lys too, sounds like you arent that into unsettled weather even if mild.

UK Outlook for Friday 22 Feb 2013 to Sunday 3 Mar 2013:

Staying cold next weekend and into the start of the following week, nights then also frosty and conditions quite breezy at times over southern UK. Generally a good deal of cloud around too, with western parts tending to see the best of any sunshine. Many parts dry or generally dry, though cloud is likely to be thick enough for occasional, mainly light, snow showers over some eastern, southern and central parts of the UK. Some signs towards the end of February of a change to less-cold conditions with temperatures slowly returning to values closer to average for the time of year in some parts. Also a risk of this change being associated with a return to slightly more unsettled weather, perhaps preceded by sleet or snow in some areas.

UK Outlook for Saturday 23 Feb 2013 to Monday 4 Mar 2013:

Staying cold next weekend and into the start of the following week, with widespread frost by night, and quite breezy conditions at times in the south, making it feel colder still. Generally a good deal of cloud around, with western parts tending to see the best of any sunshine. Many areas remaining dry, though cloud is likely to be thick enough for occasional, mainly light wintry flurries over some eastern, southern and central parts of the UK at first. There are some signs into the start of March of a change to less-cold conditions with temperatures slowly returning to nearer average for the time of year. This change may be associated with a return to more unsettled weather, mainly towards the northwest of the UK.

Seems to be a steady backtrack away from potential wintry conditions for the 1st half of March.

One assumes this 'backtrack' as you label it is a scientific assessment of all the data at their disposal to suggest that conditions look now like being less wintry. It would be pretty daft if they did not update do you not think?

Not a reply to you but a comment over some responses to the 6-15 and 16-30 day outlook, especially the latter.

The posts seem to be a mix of

'its the same story why keep issuing the same'

or

they change their mind too often to be reliable

whatever they do it seems they are wrong by some folk-funny really. Reading back over the last few weeks it really is rather funny..
