Groundhog Day it is and Punxsutawney Phil, has not seen his shadow.

By the nature of this it does mean spring is on its way to the USA....

Rather than use meteorological forcasting to determine weather patterns for the coming months, the arrival of Spring weather in the world's most advanced economy is determined by whether Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow.

This year he didn't, so Spring will come early

Since the Groundhog’s first prediction in 1887, Phil has seen his shadow 100 times and not seen it on just 16 occasions, according to the Washington Post (some of his appearances were not recorded).

The newspaper site also reported that the animal is not always right.

Phil's name derives from the small town in Pennsylvania where he makes his predictions.
