Nothing wrong with dry, sunny and mild, nothing wrong with windy either, I will be at my window watching the trees dancing in the wind. It's the wet part we do not want right now, as I'm quite sure the west country still need to dry out from the soaking from last year.

the 4th still showing the cool down

heres why not to follow every gfs run

click on the 06 run

then the 12z run

look at the thick black line which is the main gfs run

now look at the 5th

note a 10 degree difference between the 2 runs in 6 hours fool.gif

END OF WINTER FORECAST 2013

This forecast is based on historical events and GEFS, ECM & JMA ensemble members over the last week.

27th Jan to 2nd Feb

Atlantic driven weather for all with temperature at or just above normal with strong wind and heavy rain at times. Flooding

will be the talking point but towards the end of the week pressure starts to rise over scandinavia.

3rd Feb to 9th Feb

High pressure sets up to the north of scandinavia but the uk still remains in an atlantic driven set-up with rain at times and temperatures

start to drop a little below average.

10th Feb to 16th Feb

High pressure over scandinavia collapses and is filled by low heights as high pressure starts to establish it's self over the uk, sitting

just north of the uk as low pressure heads into southern europe. Temperature a little below the normal with very cold nights.

17th Feb to 23rd Feb

Low pressure becomes established over southern europe and high pressure returns to scandinavia as the uk starts to really cool down

with temperatures well below the normal values and heavy snow at times.

24th Feb to 2nd March

The atlantic tries to push in to the UK but ends up under cutting and sinking south as the scandi high starts to retrogress towards greenland

and we end the month with temperatures well below average and a newly established greeny block.

March could be cold .......................................biggrin.png

Evening all.

Had a mix of PPN last night, there was a smattering of new snow on the ground this morning. Up to 5C today, only a few patches of snow left now. A mixed bag of weather to come over the next week.

The next 5 days will be dominated by a deep area of LP to the NW of the UK:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm241.gif

A variation in temperatures throughout the next week or so with alternating air masses. For example a polar maritime airmass on Monday:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm482.gif

But a tropical maritime airmass on Tuesday:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rukm722.gif

GFS maximum temperatures for EA at midday from Sunday to Thursday:

Sunday: 7C

Monday: 5C

Tuesday: 12C

Wednesday: 11C

Thursday: 8C

A windy week to come too, after what has been a very quiet spell of weather wind-wise. For example Monday looking quite windy:

http://cdn.nwstatic.co.uk/gfsimages/gfs.20130126/12/51/ukwind.png

Varying weather too, with several bands of rain crossing the region, such as tonight and Tuesday, interspersed with some showers and sunshine too. GFS 12z PPN accumilation up to midday Thursday:

http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/Rmgfs11714.gif

Maybe becoming colder towards next weekend, but something more akin to more typical British winter weather this coming week.

Tentative signs judging by the main Thread of something stirring for around 10 days time.

Hope we'll all still be on board, for the banter as much as any potential snow!
