Must say I am quite surprised - temperature has lifted from -4°C to a balmy +1.4°C - and the BBC Wales weather has snow over South East Wales for a few hours just after midday. I can't see it as the temperature has lifted and when the front comes in it will lift even further. What are the Beeb playing at - probably quite misleading that one.

they are probs giving warning just in case as if they don't and it does some people be very unhappy and it could be very dangerous, to be honest i would rather be warned and then it not come than have no warning and my daughter and wife be out in their cars, my wife will take the 4x4 today in case and daughter will get a lift rather than drive.

That's one helluva red sky this morning. The snow fields on the top of the hills are just glowing pink.

What's the view on potential for disruption heads of the valleys area today?

OK my forecast for today/tonight - will be snow all the way for the eastern south wales valleys - Pontypridd north - especially heads of the valleys - snow pretty much all the way and into the morning - only stopping once the front has passed through - so another blizzard basically! Backed up by the NAE forecast! - But it's what I thought it would do anyway!

Is this the last sting in the tail, perhaps we will have a tump of snow instead of rain! Wishful thinking,I hate seeing the end in sight, perhaps andy should be selling boats now!

I would tend to agree, NMM and NAE show temps close to freezing when the front arrives later, but up to 1.3c here already. I would think about 15-30mins of wet snow on the leading edge, becoming increasingly sleety, but we'll wait and see. Tops of the Beacons could have a serious dump of snow though!

PS cloud arrived just after 11pm here last night, so min was -9.2c. Would've been extremely cold had the clear skies last until morning.

nope I'm sticking with the snowmobiles tel skippy a doo dah hey I'm not going to sell a snowmobile today - and the best time to buy them is in between a snow event (ie rain) - to get prepped ready for the next event - this cold and snow ain't finished with us this winter by a long shot - we've got loads more to come yet - and over the next 30 years it'll get worse too ( and that's not the slaesman talking in me now) - I know this for a fact - and I've been talking about this for sometime now too - in conjunction with Joe B's thoughts in america - it's simple logic - sun lessens it's impact on the earth - earth cools - we have worse colder winters! - this will continue now for three decades at least - and I'm so sure of this - reason I've decided to get involved with the snowmobile business - I trust my gut feelings - hunches and research - that's all we all have to rely on!

There has been some thaw yesterday and overnight here, but still a goodly hi tog duvet thickness in the garden, roads clear, gritters out and its trying to snow. Went for walk with dog yesterday over untouched fields and snow still between 6" - 1ft - lovely and powdery. Dog loved it - but she's mad anyway, keen sense of smell, she managed to dig a half eaten biscuit out of a snowdrift!

Moderately heavy snow here now. I think these are showers ahead of the front and therefore should be mostly snow inland, but looking at the radar there precip seems pretty all over the place I can't see an obvious front position, but I think the main front was forecast to move in 3pm-6pm, this would bring the rain. Ahead of that lets hope we get lots of lovely snow!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
