No rain or sleet in the showers now all snow and getting heavier blowing around in a strong south easterly, still far to wet on the surfaces that had been cleared for the snow to lay. Temps falling in the showers to around 1ºC and dew point -0.1ºC so still close to marginal. Off to Felling soon hope I dont get caught in any sudden blizzards dont want to be stuck there.!!

Yep :) Just a shame everything got wet and melted a bit overnight! Newc adn the coast seem to have done badly in that respect.. although now have heavier ppn, so should end up on a par with here in Durham.

Upland areas should be AWESOME. Must plan a trip up to the Pennines!

Non stop blizzards here since at least since 6. Completly cut off. Snow looks about a foot deep and drift look up to 6 foot in places. Would be completly nuts to even consider leaving the house today. Worst snow since 2010 although nowhere near as deep. Yet.

Told yous, be positive!

Turning to v heavy snow at 40m asl, 5 miles from the coast.

I'm hoping it gets heavier here too like around the Morpeth area.

What's your take on accumulations now IF? That feature you mentioned in the ECM hi res looked like it was over my house! Is that after this has all cleared?

Blizzard like conditions in DUrham walking the bairn to school... 5" lying in best spots, foot-high drifts, finally more is settling.. and school is still on: makes me proud to be in the NE. smile.png

Yes it's something to be proud of.

You should hear the way everyone is going on here in Nottingham at work. You would think there was a foot, not 5cm!

Schools closed all over the area too.

Soft southerners!

Very wet snow in darlington not much sticking i don't think.

Were is gavin to keep us updated about this area lol? Do you know how much more we might get and for how long cold

I'm here don't worry lol

Well after a decent start at just after 1am the snow stopped and has only just started again in the past 20 minutes or so

The radar is looking better now its just a case of how long has the snow got left before it moves north

OK so DP and Temp slowly showing signs of dropping at nearest weather station to me.

Still getting a mixture of PPN, but increasingly more snowy...

But I have a feeling ground is now too wet to get any accumulation.

Just a case of watching and waiting, I'm hoping that the fact NL is experiencing snow showers rather than sleet is a good sign for me, just a few miles up the coast....

I remain quietly optimistic.

Just a report from rural Sandhutton in inland North Yorkshire- the snow depth here is exactly the same as it was last evening (4cm) as the snow thawed a bit before 5am and then re-accumulated between 5 and 8am, and it was very marginal (min 0.8C). The reports of 15+ centimetres are coming mostly from higher ground and it seems that some of you in lowland areas have had rather more- though of course not near the coast.

Eased back to moderate snow now, but there's 1-2cm where the snow had thawed.

Its a joke in Consett but for the opposite reasons right now.....temps and DPs slowly edging down, but has the most intense stuff now passed northwards?

What an absolute joke this has turned out to be for teesside, no fresh snow, roads a slushy mess and pavements just icey as hell were the snow has gone, I've had enough of this now lol

And it's turned heavy again. East facing roofs and chimneys are caked in snow, yet all other sides are clear!

Still plenty incoming which seems to be intensifying as it reaches us.
