And finally, a useful snawshield is found:

Well Linlithgow just got a lot heavier, almost horizontal blowing up the high street.

The latest bursts here have been a bit heavier and have left the ground at least greyish in the bits where no old snow was left. Easing off again now unfortunately.

Oh Edinburgh folk, I'll blow some up your way. We're 13 miles to the south and I'd say there is a good 6 inches here. It is coming in sideways and sticking to the side of the house and up the fence. it hasn't stopped since this morning, although not heavy but constant.

The kids are dying to go sledging but we're waiting on it to settle. I'll try to get a photo up when we get out. Just come on down the A7 - I'll get the hot chocolate ready!!

For those of us who have snaw, we can rely on NW. For all those snowless Kilters out there but still keeping the faith, I give you...

Wonderful, though you are marginally further south but it is starting to do rather well here too, rapid whitening of all surfaces, grass covered, car park getting covered, and still very heavy.

Thoughts how this evening may develop or pan out?

Now lighter, and no longer settling on the car, and my cleared path is looking damp and puddly again. I feel like we are on a bland loop! I'm hoping February will bring us better luck!

Bit of a flurry in Aberdeen. Looks like more lined up on the radar :)

Whiteout on the Pentland tops: http://www.eastsidecottages.co.uk/webcam/

Still nothing settling here in North central Edinburgh (Canonmills). :(

Norwegian site says rain tomorrow and max of 3°C, then colder on Wednesday with a high of -2°C

All goes a bit pear shaped after Thursday though:

anyone know if / when temps will fall enough for settling snow in areas that are currently marginal?

looking at the radar the precip will be around a good few hours yet. (clinging on to hope :) )

well done to the snowy peeps

Really frustrating day here! Been chucking it down with snow since 7am yet all it's doing is helping a slow melt of existing snow cover. Hoping things improve later but not holding my breath. It's currently starting to try and stick but its far too wet now.

Temp and dp dropping though. Is it not snowing? Don't appear to be losing anything here other than the snow the kids are using to build a snowman. They've now messed up the pretty back garden. Lol

Right, come on, own up, who's built a precipitation barrier on the East coast around Forfar & Arbroath? That band of precipitation just doesn't want to move North of there, been stuck for at least 2hrs now! We've got an Amber warning for areas West of Aberdeen that I'm sure just about covers my house, yet so far what has probably fallen wouldn't make a single snowball.

Yeh I've noticed that line from around Carnoustie to Forfar has held all morning. It appears the main frontal band creeps north inch by inch yet never gets past this Angus brick wall, very odd. Maybe LS could through some light on it for us (the weather science behind the "Angus Brick wall yee shall not pass") will it break through this evening? If not Amber warning zone will look a tad silly?

Prior to this lot moving in, Satellite updated again. some organised activity dialling in on the East Coast, looks like that 1700 hrs prediction from NMM won't be too far out..

Browsing the bypass cameras says it all really. Look at the difference within a couple of miles - hee haw at Hermiston Gait but watch it change as you go East (and higher in places) - Dreghorn and Lothianburn especially.
