Just walked in to work over the moor. Quite a bit of drifting, mainly 30-60 cm deep but some drifts up to 1.1 m.

Continuous light-moderate snow grains still falling. Snow is dry and powdery but the wind is no longer strong enough to drift it.

Overcast and dry after a few light snow flurries overnight and this morning. The easterly wind has kicked in now, so the min temp last night was 0.8C.

Currently 1.3C with a dewpoint of -0.5C.

Mean level snow depth is 9cm after a slight compaction overnight. As TM above, still have to thaw out the rain gauge, so no idea of precipitation amount!

A lot of regions around the country are reporting rain, sleet, melting and marginality i think this is because there has never really been any sustained heights over iceland/greenland to completely block off the atlantic unlike 09/10 10/11 where we all know there were!! The atlantic is always trying to fight back when it isnt blocked off and it will be all next week as well, im not complaining about this cold spell and this winter is already better than last one because of it but i think through the rest of jan and feb we should be looking north west for our blocking

Well, despite so much optomism yesterday, the snow has all but melted here. Simply a cloudy, dull, and rather cold day and with a temperature of +4.2, anything that does fall will be rain rather than snow.

With a temperature of only +1.4 and quite heavy snow for much of yesterday, today is a real diappointment.
