Does anyone know what the A167 is like snow wise in Central Newcastle? The road towards the airport in particular through 'Cowgate', have to go pick my brother up soon.

seems weird why everyone is reporting melting and warming temps the 850's appear fine minus 10-s just off the coast and widely -7 - 9's everywhere else with an easterly flow!!! oh well

The latest NAE 06z has much better snow prospects for Monday.

uppers.. dewpoints..

precip..

The GFS has uppers of -5 with +1/2 dewpoints which is quite a difference.

TWS mentioned this in a post he made earlier on.

Just been on snow-shovel duty and now have the best part of 6 inches of snow lying.smile.png

Light snow continuing

Air temp 1.7°C

Dew point -1.4°C

Your dewpoints are always VERY low Gavin... they don't match up with others in the area. Is your sensor properly shielded?

GFS in the short term keeps things remaining cold and at times snowy for most of next week

Light snow continues to fall here

This is the beebs take on things for Monday those close to the coast could see rain or sleet rather than snow but inland snow is more likely

monsnow.png?t=1358597666

The met office also shows this

For Redcar its rain or sleet at best

redcar.png?t=1358597942

But for Darlington its Snow with just a bit of sleet later in the afternoon

darlo.png?t=1358597942

Its the same further north as well heavy rain and sleet for South Shields but move inland to Prudhoe and its snow

Well wont be getting out of my street today. I have a bmw 3 series with 19" 255s on. I just tried to fit my snow socks, but as the gap between the top of the wheel and the arch is so small, I could not get my arm in to push it over the tyre. They are going on e-bay! I wonder when the snow will clear......

Nothing here. Radar showing nothing of significance for this afternoon. the place to be is the Dundee area, but not near the coast as its over 2c there. If we had some cold spells earlier in the winter, the sst would be lower and the coast would get snow.

We did, we had a cold spell in December, a cold shot in October and I think SST's are around average for the time of year.

The problem we have at the moment is the lack of instability and not the lowest thicknesses so maybe this is the reason why people are reporting melting?

There is a very slow thaw around here also.

Do you think we are going to get more instability tonight?

Hoping that the GFS is wrong for early next week. I don't mind the idea of a breakdown to milder weather at the end of the week but I don't fancy a few days of sleety stuff, slowly thawing slush and ice, and the media telling us about us having a welcome respite from the dreadful weather. If UKMO/ECMWF verify then it should remain snowy until the end of our cold spell.
