Over the last few hours the snow has gone from small grainy stuff to small flakes, it looks like its getting better, not worse.

The thicknesses are getting higher and the 850mb temps are getting lower. The 850s are decreasing more rapidly so this might just be temporary - once these level off the thicknesses will continue to rise.

It's going to remain marginal - nor guaranteed sleet by any means, but always the chance of it.

The 850-1000dm lines are staying between 1280 and 1285 all day. Light sleety wet snow flakes and heavy snow grains. Still 12cm here.

It's the magic 528 DAM line which is retreating, that's what you need to be watching as everything else looks favourable at the moment.

Getting marginal today with thicknesses JUST below 528 DAM, although its hard to tell from this chart:

Tomorrow evening:

Ideally you want sub 522 DAM.

Not bad

Could be marginal for those close to the coast those inland and on a decent elevation are likely to get snow

Air temp remains at +1.3°C

Dew point remains at -1.8°C

Surely the 850-1000 thicknesses are more important to explain the very cold 850s (-9c) and sleet and snow at the surface at 1c.

The 500hpa thicknesses do provide a good measure of cold upper air though. NCL TAF going for snow shrs tonight.

Careful using the ppn type charts - they show snow, but the snow risk charts show the snow height as 300m or so. The GFS is the worst for Monday, most of the other models would give snow.

heavy snow/hail and quite strong winds here now, which has blown most of the snow from the trees,

My cover still intact this morning, large chunk of snow slipped off my car bonnet suggesting temperatures above freezing, which they are.

Radar doesn't look as exciting today but have seen some snow and heard a lot of hail

I think the GFS is certainly overdoing it, but its very unusual to have such differences at +48, we really can't tell what'll happen! Make the most of it this weekend just in case.

Here's the depth of my snow:

Might have to sledge today rather than tomorrow... temperature higher than it's been for about 5 days now: 1.2°C, DP 0.4°C. Is there supposed to be any improvement later today? Or will it just get warmer?

What is the radar showing for this afternoon and evening? Just as the wind direction becomes favourable, the precipitation decides to dry up. Typical.

Might be just as well - the DPs and temperatures don't like good.
