Showers on and off. Ground is white.

To me it looks like the activity in the North Sea is increasing. Some big showers well out at sea in line with just north of Newcastle.

The snaw is getting heavier here now smile.png Pentlands have been eating most of it but hoping for a dusting tonight!

p.s. Dundee is about to get hammered - some red returns on the radar so could be thundersnow?

Good call.

My daughter has just told me she saw lightning a moment ago. I haven't heard thunder but it could be a bit away i suppose.

Wet slushy snow here, very deep covering of snow up towards Forfar. Currently 1c although it feels more Baltic in the wind.

My fairly limited meteorological understanding basically goes like this:

- it is so unusually cold and dry at ground level that What Falls Stays

- it is so unusually cold up above that What Falls Is Snaw

- the wind is easterly and staying that way for a while...

So we don't need heavy snow blizzarding about giving us a foot in two hours - we just need it to keep on drifting down because ALL OF IT is going to count :D

It's gone back to gently whirling dust-motes, but that's fine by me because if it does it all night... :)

Is that right, or a meringue?

Incoming still appears to be from a South Easterly rather than Easterly direction - a good sign for the central belt when the winds come more and more from the east (if you forgive the IMBY)

1-2 cm new already. A68 black but back roads turning white.

Wet slushy snow here, very deep covering of snow up towards Forfar. Currently 1c although it feels more Baltic in the wind.

Not so slushy out to the West side but temps have risen a bit to 0.7C and last shower had hail and the flakes that followed were wetter. Beginning to think my daughter imagined the lightning as nothing since.

Correct, usually for us ratios are around 6 or 8-1 in terms of snow lying to precipitation falling but now it's probably something along the lines of 12-1 because of the low dewpoints.

Usual depth of snaw here. Nothing, nada, nowt, f*@k all.

The moon is oot and there's nae ring aroon it, so we've nae chance.

Yoos beasties in the easties enjoy yer snaw. It's guid tae hear that some folk are enjoying it.
