Three Counties & East Anglia Regional Discussion - January 18th 2013>

Is anyone else currently suffering the same worries as me?

1) Today will be a non-event in our region with minimal amounts of snow for EA.

2) Tomorrow will see some light and insignificant snow.

3) Snow will stay out in North Sea on Sunday

4) Those rain/sleet symbols for Monday on the Met Office website yesterday will wash it all away.

well that's a glass half empty approach I must say....mine is half full

1) Today will be a huge event with epic snow in our region.

2) Tomorrow will see heavy significant snow.

3) Heavy convective showers coming off the north sea to swamp us.

4) Those rain/sleet symbols for Monday will be turned to snow symbols and give us a right old dumping again.

While you guys are busy being the pessimist and the optimist....I'm being a realist .....it's just about to start snowing here (small bits in the air) and it's probably not going to stop until tomorrow so let's just wait and see how much we all get, rulers at the ready folks and remember it has to be on a flat surface and drifts don't count.....

......also photos or it didn't happen !

Snow seems to be steadily getting heavier here and haven't got the intense bit shown on the radar near yet, wind picking up too.

A149 and A12 look ok now, looked a bit dodgey earlier, must have managed to grit the roads at about 6 this morning

no problems and thanks, just went for a walk in it and made decision to cancel, since could be ok now but seem there is more in the air and worried about getting back as can sometimes be at hospital for an hour or so.I bet loads of people will cancel today anyway.

What about the temperatures behind that band of snow? I'm getting a bit worried with the meltdown instead.

Not meant to have any snow yet, wasn't forecasted to start in your area until probably 10-10.30am, we've only got flakes in Aylesbury right now, and we're 15-20 odd miles south west of you.

Should mean more, just waiting for the 06z NAE to come out to see what that says (i.e. if there's much change from the 00z)... Although at this stage it's really down to watching the radar.

Looks like the snow albeit will continue for much of the night in this region.

My current estimates are 2-5cm in the NE of this region, 7-10cm in the SW of this region. However it will all come down to luck and the radar.

Started snowing five minutes ago and already a light layer over everything. Sky very dark and gloomy. OH insisted on going to a meeting today and will have got there OK but it will be interesting to see how long it will take to get back...

Just watched the forecast and it looks like Cambridge to Huntingdon st, Ives st, Neots up to sawty will have the snow shield up. While all other areas including Peterborough snow shield will be hibernatin. 😛

Thanks Coast, apart from Mondays snowfall, which melted quite a bit not long after it fell have missed out here compared to our neighbours in east Norfolk, some lovely ice days the past few days just wish for a better covering of snow now.

Snowing like crazy here in CMK. small flakes but loads of them blowing in a gusty wind. Everything turning white quickly, if it gets heavier then we are in for a blizzard

I'm not sure if I should be in this thread or the S/E one?? Anyway it's just started snowing here, very small flakes but lots of them, settling well on the cars and roads

Whats really complicating snowfall predictions for this area is we have the unusual scenario of a stalling front. I say unusual because normally this occurs much further W when we have blocking to the E.

Fax charts clearly show this.

Note the front moves back SW.

Stalling fronts can bring huge snowfall totals because obviously the snow becomes stationary. So really come this evening/overnight alot will really depend on who is lucky. Don't forget due to low temps, dewpoints even moderate snow could give some decent accumulations. Even tomorrow some parts in the W/SW of this region could still be seeing snowfalling.

It has been snowing deceptively lightly here for about 35 minutes, everything covered with a 'heavy icing sugar' amout on the ground; not measurable with a ruler yet but seems to be building up steadily!
