See METO have widened the yellow alerts for Friday, assuming this inidicates the front will push through the SW to all parts of the UK??

Alert updated as follows

As the weather breaks down, an area of snow looks increasingly likely to spread from the southwest. Winds will strengthen and blizzard conditions are a possibility, especially over high ground. Accumulations of more than 10 cm of snow are possible in many parts, with the potential for some severe disruption, though currently there is a good deal of uncertainty about intensity of snow and how quickly it will turn to rain in the southwest.

Here's hoping for some snow in Ferndown on Friday, I just have this horrible feeling, as so often is the case, that it will be very short lived if not an entirely rain based event given we are so close to the coast :-(

Temperatures in the SW seem to be holding very stubbornly in positive figures on the forecasts, so I just can't see this panning out. Can anyone offer any hope of the preferred snow based scenario, for those of us in central southern coastal areas?

Only the here and now. If it can happen now why oh why shouldn't it happen on Friday, is what I'd say? blum.gif

A general note to everybody here.

The models will chop and change right through until the actual event, so absolutely nobody should really be despondent at this range.

I know :-) I'm quite encouraged by this, but Friday's event is what I have most of my hopes pinned on.

Whatever the weather, we'll weather the weather. Whether we like it or not. Sorry off topic.

Living around 5 miles from the coast, I know how marginal it can be here. Probably the exact same with you! The winds will be coming from the SE/ESE so normally this would be much move favourable than S or SW. BUT you've got to remember, the origin from where the winds are coming from (northern France) do have some very cold surface temperatures. One other point, from a SEly it's the shortest land to sea track for us, meaning any marintine influence will do little impact.

I think, from the current output, we are joining in with the rest of the country with the snowfall, but this can change at any point!

So..

We still on for Friday and Saturday ?

People at work are betting I have it wrong. So I hope these models dont suddenly change 24hours out like last time!

Totally enjoying these threads, updates and witticisms, but want to remain on the correct discussion for most up to date information. So, Henley on Thames on SW/Central southern? Hope so...

Very exciting as the Chilterns often get clobbered! :-)

Still overcast, cold and car display read -2.0oC a little while ago.

Amber warning on Met Office for a bit of South West.

10cm-15cm widely in the amber zone. And I'm in there. Nice. :)

Just wish it wasn't so far away still as that's still subject to change.
