Cold easterly flow and ( the last couple of sentences) signal for heavy PPN in SW.

I'm not sure if that's a slight IMBY bias, if Ian pops in here perhaps he can let us know a bit more on his thoughts on that one!

You've been in here more than your hometown, SE thread.

Is it because you sense the SW will be stuck under feet of snow soon?

Go on, say it's true? :):p :p

Please let us get a really heavy snowfall and preferably on a weekend yahoo.gif

We always luck out on any major snowfall (apart from in 2010/11)

I'm loving the last sentence......yahoo.gif

Indeed, I have had a gut feeling about channel lows bumping into the frigid air further East for many months now. Here were my thoughts back in November.

Still a long way yet and also a lot to prove in terms of anything really cold but when the MetO are interested in the probability of it happening then so should we be.

I also feel that it is worth bringing up this post as why we shouldn't fall into the trap of believing that everything coming out from the models will deliver as forecasted. That would be like suggesting that everything you read in a newspaper is true. lazy.gifwallbash.gif

Well, with all this 'buzz' going on does anyone out there think we're in a better position than we were late November / early December. It does feel better but I distinctly remember having the feeling of being let down big time in December.

Any wise words on the subject apart from all the obvious 'health warnings'!!!

I do purely because in December it was the easterly or nothing. There was no margin for error.

This time we have a margin for error. If the first attempt doesn't succeed, which it quite possibly won't, with further Strat warming's & wave activity feeding into the troposphere, we will have further attempts down the line, into February etc.

Nothing is guaranteed with the UK weather. All we can do is increase the chances of cold to our best potential. We are doing that now, but we will always need that elusive bit of luck to finish the job.

Enjoy the ride!

Yes I would imagine, the nearby continent should be at its coldest and it's coming at a much more favourable time, i.e. almost mid Winter.

I think the sea temp round here (Somerset/Devon) was about 12 degrees in December and may have helped the Atlantic depressions sweep in (??). Not that I surf come the end of October - being a complete wimp - but husband does (mad!) and he said it was warm. I wonder what the sea temp was when we DID get the snow???

Something more seasonal at least being shown now, with the potential of something a little colder too as the month progresses in our part of the world;

It's trending the right way, just need this trend to continue and materialise now.

Ian mentions the SSW on tonight's forecast just now, in prep for POSSIBLE change to colder weather in 2nd half of January.

Top bloke in our neck of the woods - we're lucky!

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
