Those maps can be so misleading.. according to those maps, we had over 240 hours of sun in July, when we had 221. I'm also pretty sure Filton airport, as one example, did not have over 320 hours of sun in July. Did anywhere have that much sunshine?

Either way, a definite westward bias in July as well as June.

Yes 327 hours at St Helier:

28.4mm here in July so quite dry. 23.8mm in June too and so far August has given 9.0mm (in contrast to further west in Devon where over 50mm fell in one day in places), meaning there has been just 61.2mm of rain here so far this summer.

Jan: 124.6mm
Feb: 49.6mm
Mar: 127.2mm
Apr: 36.8mm
May: 54.4mm
Jun: 23.8mm

Only 4.0mm here overnight, so we're on a rather dry 15.8mm for the month.

38.4mm for July and August combined, the lowest since 1976 as it stands.

According to figures from weatheronline and backed up by http://www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/PREV.html

These were the five sunniest stations in the UK, with teh 2nd number the number of days without records.

Valley (10 m)  314 0

St Athan (49 m)  308 0

IoM / Ronaldsway AP (16 m)  298 0

Filton (59 m)  290 2

Aberporth (134 m)  284 1

Given that St Athan had 14hrs of sun on the 2 missing days [24/25 July]. the sun for Filton in July was around 305hrs.

Going back to rainfall, after a dry June and July, August is now already wetter than average I would imagine.

100mm here for September compared to the 145mm average. Now at 1,020mm for the year. Below average so far and it will take a pretty wet final 3 months to make average it seems. No chance of last year's 2,090mm!

There's a good chance this year will end up drier than 2011 at this rate.

2013 so far in Hedon:

Jan: 48.8mm (87%)

Feb: 30.8mm (72%)

Mar: 51.4mm (107%)

Apr: 10.4mm (21%)

May: 61.0mm (132%)

Jun: 55.0mm (93%)

Jul: 22.6mm (42%)

Aug: 25.0mm (42%)

Sep: 29.6mm (50%)

Total: 334.6mm (71%)

2011 at this point in the year saw 337.8mm and that was the driest year since 1964 by the end. Very strange to have two extremely dry years with a very wet one in between!
