Don't talk about quite a few Sidneys. Down at the lake yesterday it was absolute mayhem with all the little Sidneys running amok. Definately no cygnets this year but another batch of ducklings.

Jackdaw tries to get in on the young Herring Gull's lunch and nearly becomes part of it.

On a more relaxed note, unfortunately the photos are poor, a Robin still feeding a fledged youngster.

Four chicks appear to be thriving. I originally thought there were just four in the nest, but found a fifth on the deck yesterday morning. It looked pretty poorly, but I put it back in the nest anyway. It has been turfed out again and maybe so deliberately because of illness or failure to thrive?

I stopped off on the way back at the Sand martin quarry. Quite a few nest-holes are active now and I heard chicks begging, but no photos of the adults – yet.

Love the seal photos. I'm hoping to get down to the seal sanctuary at Gweek this summer but it's an awkward place to get to without a car. I must have missed the earlier posts regarding your doggie, is he/she responding well to the treatment?.

A problem with my Nikon D80. Turned it on this morning and got an error message. Haven't had time to look into it yet but it doesn't look good. There would appear to be no communication between the lens and the camera.

In and around Amersham, swallows are already doing their lining up on the phone wires prior to heading back south thing. I am hoping that this means that they bred early and the chicks don't need feeding any more but fear that for the second year in a row it means that many of them have failed to breed.

Maybe you are just observing the increasing number of fledged swallows, CR.

Having said that, the first nest at home here has failed. However the adults are starting on their second attempt - not flying south yet.

She is, and the good news today was that there is no sign of local or distant recurrence of her problem.

Hopefully your camera problem proves to be no more than a minor glitch, knocker.

I've no idea what this was all about. They were absolutely stationary in this position for quite a while

Not looking good with the fault on the D80. Tried all the possible remedies if it was not a serious fault and none have worked so i need to take some advice on this which actually is not as easy as it sounds. But it's likely it will need to be sent away to Nikon for repair which, apart from the hassle and difficulty in doing this, poses another problem. I doubt any repairs would be cheap so it raises the question, particularly as the camera is now a few years old, whether this would be worth it. Of course you don't know what it would cost until you have sent it too Nikon. So I could bite the bullet and spend the outlay on a new camera but that poses another problem. I have a couple of very good lenses that are compatible with the D80, especially a 10mm-20mm wide angle, and I certainly don't want to have to ditch them as well. It's not the end of the world as I still have the Coolpix P610 which I use most often.

Need sleep on this for a couple of days. Any advice very welcome :)

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
