There is probably a better place to ask this but.....

The idea that animals  or plants can be indicators of the weather more than a few hours ahead.....I have never believed this, I just cant see what the mechanism would be to allow them to do it.   Is there any bit of research or even a well reasoned explanation of what the mechanism might be.

I know some people will say we dont understand everything and the mechanisms may be beyond our current understanding, but Im looking for a bit more than that if possible.

I’m not a particular fan of corvids, but have become quite attached to a pair of resident Jackdaws. This is the male (I think) looking quite resplendent in the sunshine. Contrary to received wisdom, this pair don’t appear to be colonial breeders and defend their territory vigorously throughout the year. They tolerate, within about 50yds of their chimney, one other pair which occasionally forage in the garden. They also occasionally join in the massed evening Rook flypast.

The most obvious one that springs to mind is dogs: their sense of smell and their hearing is hugely more sophisticated than a human so that is why they can tell certain wether events are imminent, before humans can. I suspect other animals are sensitive to pressure and temperature too - so take some time on Google ( in a quick search I found plenty to keep you going!). Good Luck

There have been signs of Barn Owls here in the past 2 weeks, And spotted one on the old stone gate post the other day but didn't have a camera on me, Today while out walking the dogs down the dale I spotted the pair. Great to see and will be setting the wildlife camera up with bait I think ☺️

This picture was taken only with my phone hopefully you can see him, I was within 80ft of them for a good 10 minutes and saw one kill some prey.

Very early frog spawn this year. Can't remember it being so early.

Paid a visit to SWT Montrose this afternoon to find the coast shrouded in low cloud/fog – consequently not much to see.

A solitary Heron

The Copperhouse Canal bank at Hayle was constructed in the late 18th century to enclose the canal and form a sluicing pond and it survives as a low earthwork And it’s a useful shelter for a quick nap in the lee when it’s blowing a hooley like yesterday

A brief but lucky visit at high tide to the SWT Montrose reserve today resulted in a good view of the local female Kingfisher and a Little Egret.

The Cormorant was on a different perch down at the lake yesterday, because it's normal one was under water. Thus from the nearest vantage point the light fell on it from a different angle  which highlighted the pattern on it's wings and back that are not that obvious normally'

Just been out with the dogs down the local Dale, Rivers are full bore after yesterday's rain and all the brooks are overflowing, Nice to see.. Spotted this young Heron fishing at the Dam outlet. Having been the local river keeper (some time ago now)I was surprised how close I got to it as they are usually easily spooked. This one must of flown in from much busyer waters.

Unfortunately I don't have a super duper camera and can only take snaps with my ipad or phone so I can't really get the quality of photos others do sadly.  I have a deer at the bottom of my garden and noticed the other day they have a little fawn, which was somewhere in the undergrowth.  The photo was taken from the top of my garden, which was the closest I could get without scaring them,
