A bone dry Lab with water around????? How on earth did you manage that?

Few days ago he jumped in part of fast running river [ first photo above ] and unable climb out, Had to grab him by choke chain and haul him out,,,,,Poor chap almost strangled him,,, Won't go near water now, Don't expect that will last long though Posted Image His name is Norman, but not much wisdom I'm afraid Edited by cerneman

More of a Storming Norman then.... it's scary when the daft things jump into water with absolutely no regard to their own safety, they seem completely oblivious to any danger. My Spaniels are polar opposites with water, Hedley will make a beeline for any water, has to check out every puddle just in case they're deep enough for a swim. Chester on the other hand gives every drop a wide berth, with the exception of the sea and then he's straight in.

My Daffs are no where near out but they're fairly late ones anyway. Snowdrops, Primroses, Hellebores and Aconites are all flowering away though, I'll take some pics tomorrow (empty head and dodgy memory permitting).

Here are a few pics of what's currently flowering in the garden - Snowdrops, Aconites, Hellebore, Primrose, Pulmonaria (just started), a really dodgy pic of the Viburnum and some Rhubarb teasing me with it's not quite ready to eat phase - to force or not to force, that is the question.post-6280-0-50176200-1360082215_thumb.jppost-6280-0-82190200-1360082259_thumb.jppost-6280-0-86235200-1360082306_thumb.jppost-6280-0-50873000-1360082349_thumb.jppost-6280-0-97523000-1360082400_thumb.jppost-6280-0-12671600-1360082446_thumb.jppost-6280-0-22120200-1360082495_thumb.jppost-6280-0-11599900-1360082544_thumb.jppost-6280-0-50283500-1360082590_thumb.jp

No final report yet, but refined mineral oil probably discharged from ship illegally in English Channel.........Affected major breeding ground for Seabirds, Birds that been found represent only small number of birds actually involved,,,,,,,,,Lots birds already in breeding plumage, Mostly resident birds but some migrants from Norway etc

Looking out on such a dull scene now, it's hard to believe the day started like this. Spot the heron to win a prize.

Half an hour or so later down the track, Downton's resident black swans came to see me.

On the bridge looking down. I'm assuming they're small brown trout, but Cerneman will probably know.

Yes, near the bakery, if you know it. Thought they'd probably be young trout. Cheers.

Yes, I know the series, I remember watching it as a lad. It was beautifully shot.

Bob James and Chris Yates were the anglers. The 2nd part of this one (~3:47 in)

http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp1w-cljHrM

was filmed on the Longford Estate waters, which pass by about 500 yards from where I am now. Lovely to look at and walk by, but I couldn't afford to fish it.

There's nothing wrong with getting excited about Goldcrests - they're gorgeous. I was equally delighted to see a Goldfinch pottering about near here last week, and seeing the flock of Long-tailed Tits that visit my garden always raises a smile.

On another note - the frog mating season appears to have started in Herstmonceux, East Sussex; at least, there are males calling, I'm told.

I was very pleased when I saw a stonechat in the garden a few months back.

Always pleasing to see wrens flitting around the bushes.

Frogs are mating down here, saw a couple hooked up the other day.

The other day i was walking in a park a few miles from where i live, the park has a small marshy pond. In the pond there were loads of frogs and some frog spawn.
