Looking at the weather forecast for Newton Poppleford on Netweather.tv, the wind speed is going to be SW 27 - 43 mph 16:00 to 19:00. I'm not sure what that actually is showing. Wind Speed - Wind Gust or Wind Gust - Wind Gust or Wind Speed - Wind Speed. I presume it means Wind Speed - Wind Gust? Posted Image

Looking at the latest GFS it looks a bit more intense for this area so we may hit 60mph round lunch time. Interesting weather.

for those of you wanting to watch the storm develop then the following may help

latest Fax charts including the latest hand drawn surface chart (each 6 hours)

http://www.weathercharts.org/ukmomslp.htm

latest sat piccs, courtesy Dundee Uni, you need to join but its free and quick, best to use the infra red , so click on latest, then channel 5 image

not any use yet but should give some indication of how the low is tracking/deepening later today and through tomorrow

http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/maps/United_Kingdom.shtml

this is a computer generated chart and is sometimes not too accurate re the centre of highs/lows but gives a decent idea of how it is tracking

http://meteocentre.com/analyses/map.php?date=0〈=en&area=eur&size=standard

you can change the size of the chart, and use different areas, so when its closer to the UK put the uk in and enlarge it?

of course you can put in other parts of the world for interest, USA for example, good for watching winter storms or hurricanes?

A powerful extra-tropical cyclone Quentin will be more powerful storm system to lash the Britain with storm force or hurricane strength storms are quite a severe storm with the very heavy squally showers so we will have experienced windswept with rain but the wind speed could have to be really a worried about it. The wind speed could be stronger and higher.

People need to be careful and watch the storm surges that could cause extremely dangerous swells and a killer storm on the northeast coastal of the Scotland and this is going to be a severe storm with the powerful storm system.

A nice convergence moving south along with the front tomorrow afternoon, just from my eye it looks like the chances of a decent squall crossing southern Scotland, Wales, and England is in favor.

That is quite a way out though and I doubt that it will affect much of the UK.

The depression for tomorrow and Monday is the one to be watching.

Using the NMM gust charts clearly shows it well,

Early hours of Sunday Western Scotland takes the main brunt of the wind over 60mph gusts,

post-6686-0-74992400-1379173918_thumb.pn

Early Sunday morning around 10am the strong winds move across the country affecting Northern Wales and England with gusts ranging from 40 to 60mph.

post-6686-0-65223200-1379174232_thumb.pn

Then through Sunday afternoon it does overall ease down but continues to sweep across the country at this time Wales and parts of England 35 to 55mph gusts.

A large sea swell will be to the North West of the UK near the coasts 20ft and further NW away from land 28 to 32ft during Monday afternoon.

It is forecast to be gusts of 40 mph then, here.

Yeah, I would love a squall line. I've only been in 1 and that was on 04/01/2012.

This storm looks good. I hope there is some high winds today. The highest winds are likely to peak 15:00 to 16:00 at SW 24 - 40 mph. What has caught my attention though, is this. It looks like being a wet evening with 6.31 mm of rainfall forecast from 17:00 to 18:00. :D

Quick look at XCweather and the observations showing it to be a lot quieter than I expected. Storm could be delayed somewhat or just weaker than forecast. Bit of a downgrade as well on the 00 oz GFS. I think we will be lucky to hit 50 mph today but plenty of time for a pleasant surprise or unpleasant depending on how you look at it.
