some good wind across the Midlands now, the pylon wires are singing well ahead of the oncoming rain band.

I guess I will be stuck on this mooring for another week yet.

Yeh possibly dry here but pretty breezy. Now back up to F6

Quite a surprise although not unexpected to see a LEWP just a few tens of miles to the west this morning, hopefully the sun will be starting to rise just as the line hits.

Squall line passing through here. Not as intense as expected, but still a lot of rain. Flooding from field run-off appearing already!

Look out tomorrow for when the 944mb low influences colder air pooling down the jetstream at 850hpa, turning for a brief time any PPN across the north wintery.

The icelandic inbound low at 952mb with a core of 492 dam air at it's heart.

Eumetsat shows the influx of cold air mass well, 00z run still to upload fully - this tool is excellent for tracking storms.

Power went off here around 3am after a big gust, it went off across all of the Western Isles.

Here are the confirmed highest gusts from Met Office stations,

Scotland - 80mph.

Ireland - 72mph.

Wales - 63mph.

England - 55mph.

Looks like more high winds expected again tonight into Sunday morning.

Through out tonight the wind will increase and gusts around 40 to 55mph are likely again mainly in the Western parts.

Sunday morning gusts of 60 to 75mph will affect Western Scotland,

Early afternoon the strong winds will move inland creating gusts of 65mph for most but on higher ground it will be a lot more,

By the evening the winds over the Northern parts of the UK ease but across the South of the UK it picks up,

Getting breezy round here at the moment. Up to 54 mph averaging 28 mph. So starting slightly earlier than forecast.

Very heavy rain and really gusty in Carlisle at the moment is this the main rain band?

Yes several more hours to come too especially on the hills and mountains.

I think some places could see 75mm/3 inches rain by tomorrow. A textbook example of orographic lift the radar tonight.

It's times like this where Hereford gets about 10-15mm and people wonder how the river is so high! If only people looked at the rain Wales was getting.

I think it could be a worrying day for us in Hereford late tomorrow. The Wye will rise once again upstream and after peaking at midday here it hasn't had much time to drop either.

Tonight the Environment Agency are putting higher barriers on top of the permanent ones built just a few years ago. Nervous times indeed!
