Moon halo?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Went outside tonight and saw a huge halo like ring around the moon. I got a couple of pictures but have had to edit them to be able to see the halo. Just wondered if anyone can give me any more information of to what this is and what has caused it. It is still visible here now!SAM_4254.jpg

Its something to do with ice crystals in the atomosphere reflecting of the moon i think :)

The ice crystals that cover the halo signify high altitude, thin cirrus clouds that normally precede a warm front by one or two days. Warm fronts generally mean a low pressure system, so more sodding rain!
