Windy, but only fairly light rain here so far. Then again, looking at the forecast for the next 4 days we're only just getting started!

Yep, plenty of the wet stuff to come, and a green Christmas too, but if Netweather is right I may well be in for a white Boxing day!

A lot of standing water on A90 between Perth and Dundee, strong winds at Friarton bridge as well so take it easy if your on that route.

It's absolutely teaming down outside, and that strong wind makes it all the more unpleasant .....so to cheer things up....a bit of potential next week......

Aye, absolutely. If the models are even approximately correct over the next 7-10 days, then at least at resort level the snow will be piling up. I certainly hope so as our trip to Glencoe last February (we hadn't been there for a decade...) was a salutory reminder of "traditional Scottish ski conditions". That is, a combination of ice, porridge, puddles, mud, bare grass and rock. Hoping for better this year !

I always remember what a ski instructor at Glenshee told me as a kid.."if you can ski in Scotland then you can ski anywhere" which was referring to the fact that the runs were frequently icy, narrow, broken and strewn with rocks & heather. I've skiied in the Alps (France/Switzerland), Pyrannees (Andorra) and Rockies (Utah) but if you catch the conditions just right then Scotland can be just as good as anywhere. The view from Nevis Range on a bright, crisp day is up there with the best views of any ski resort.

Of course, the problem with skiing in Scotland is managing to catch the conditions just right!

Just for comparison, this was Glenshee yesterday:

And now:

Going to be interesting watching how much falls in the resorts over the next few days. Could be some impressive dumps.

Hopefully any mild period following the snowfall won't be too prolonged or damaging like last year's Christmas mega-thaw. MWIS says:

Extensive rainfall on particularly southern and eastern Scottish mountain areas until the end of the weekend. Snow will

become confined to higher areas in the Scottish Highlands, and apart from on highest summits there will be a thaw of

lying snow on Sunday.

But:

There is now a strong signal for freezing levels to drop back to around 750m after Christmas Day, whilst further south,

higher summits will intermittently fall below freezing point.

Confused... it's damp and very gloomy here but radar has been showing steady moderate rain for hours. There's anaprop and then mega-anaprop - any ideas why this might be so wrong today, anyone?

Light rain here, no wind though. I think the breeze may pick up tomorrow, and the weekend looks like crap....

Scotland's weather for Friday, another day where it will be cloudy all day, it will start with showers in the East and South but staying dry in the West and North. In the afternoon it will dry up in the South but showers will remain in the East this will continue into the evening and night. All day snow showers are likely in the Highlands. A strong breeze across most of the country but gales over the East and North. Friday morning temps 1c to 4c and Friday night 0c to 4c.

It's been a cloudy day here with showers the wind has eased down from yesterday though.

I just nipped out for some more firewood and got drenched in the time it took to fetch just a couple of logs from the shed. The ground around the house is also starting to flood, which is something I've not seen here before. And a -3C windchill to boot!

The greatest thing about this setup is you never need to worry about where the cold is going to come from:

The Arctic just gives and gives. Some milder interludes in between but on the GFS we'd get a prolonged and pretty deep cold spell from Christmas Day to the bells:
