-2.0c in freezing fog with a moderate easterly making it feel bitterly cold.

Roads and paths are covered with a sheet of ice and probably the worst I've seen in 25 yrs of motoring.

People are on their hands and knees and I saw a few abandoned vehicles on the journey in.

A cold and cloudy night with hill fog developing from late evening. Freezing drizzle set in during the early hours making all untreated surfaces lethally icy.

Currently overcast with thick fog and continuous light drizzle. All the rime is gone from the trees but the ground and grass is still thick with it.

no freezing rain here thankfully but it caused lots of problems higher up to the NW, Leeds, Bradford areas reading the local thread. Up to 6C and the rain has largely cleared for the time being.

Woke up to raised voices outside my window this morning. Looked out and saw a group of folk surrounding a very posh car parked in the middle of the road, perpendicular to the normal flow of traffic. No idea what was going on but one guy set off walking up the road with a bucket which he had presumably got from a resident. Came back ten minutes later and was doing something around the car, still didn't register what. All became clear when I set out the door for school with my lad and we both promptly fell on our butts - a scenario repeated maybe half a dozen times on the walk to school. Cars were piled up all over our very steep road 'cos of the incredible layer of ice. Ain't seen it like that for many a year. The guy with the bucket was walking up the road to get some grit...
